One of the neatest plays I've ever seen was in a game in the 80's when we were playing SU at the Dome. SU put their goalie up around midfield to help on the defense against the clearing attempt by us. We recognized it and one of our players heaved the ball. It bounced over midfield and the SU goalie, and almost went it.[/q]

Was Matt Palumb in goal for 'cuse?  I seem to remember he liked to play out of the goal quite a bit.  He occasionally would clear the ball himself by running across midfield into the box before dumping it off to Lockwood or one of the Gaits.

Matt was an All-American at Jamesville-Dewitt in '86 and then was the starting goalie at SU for 3 national titles (88-90). He may stick out in your memory because he was the only goalie I've ever seen who wore football pants/thigh pads.

He's a NCAA offiical now and has officiated a couple of national title games, making him the only person ever to play in and officiate a national championship.

[ObHockeyContent]Palumb claims to have been a hockey goalie as well, although I dunno at what level.

Work is no longer an excuse to live near an ECACHL team... :(

I haven't seen this officially, but someone posted this as the game-time on the Laxpower forum.
