Agreed on Ken711 points. I thought Backus got the best out of the talent available to him. I questoined his reliance on man coverage on pass plays.

I have a pretty good idea who the new DC might be. Look at UPenn's DC Bob Benson to possibly get the job for a couple of reasons:

1. The job application said they were looking for an experienced DC with Ivy League experience.

2. Most importantly, Dan Swanstrom knows him well from his time on the UPenn staff.  Benson was also on the staff with Cornell's current defense line coach while they both were at Colorado School of Mines.

UPenn has hired University of New Hampshire head coach Rick Santos to head their football program.

He graduated from Harvard last month, so he was planning all along on transferring to a big-time football school to improve his NFL prospects.

Cornell has a lot of this year's seniors in the transfer portal.  Unfortunately, they also have what what be a 2026-27 junior LB Keith Williams also in the portal. He's received offers already from the U. of Minnesota and Northwestern.  That's the NIL world we live in today.

Florida State is bringing in Keith Williams for a look.

Heck, Montana State won the FCS title and they now have 10 or so guys in the transfer portal. Truly a different world....

Their QB spent 2 years at Syracuse, then 2 years at Stanford, and then found his way to Montana. It is a different time.

Not exactly a Cornell football '25 story, but still a mention of Cornell football here (might be behind a paywall): https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/seahawks/former-seahawk-bryan-walters-find-himself-back-at-super-bowl-in-new-role/
