Isn't the scoreboard just simulcasting the game broadcast?  They only have two replay angles and they usually only show one look of a goal from the angle nearest that goal, right?  I know it's not a venue that lends itself to good tv camera angles but I do wonder if a well off donor would ever contribute to the broadcast so that they could add another center ice camera with a tighter puck follow for an additional replay angle?

It destroys the moment, which used to be a fragile, kinetic experience.  It's now just analytical data.

cf. everything else since roughly 1955.

I like it for tv broadcasts, especially with good commentating, as it can be a great way to learn some nuances of the sport.

In the rink, though, it's a complete distraction. It changes the flow, it undermines the authority of the refs, and it leads to excessive coaching gamesmanship. It definitely destroys the moment, as it now allows the crowd to look at their phones instead of being synced with the action. That's the "if it's important, it will be digitized" culture we now live in.
