Dartmouth 3, Cornell 1 End of the Half.

Cornell can't get any shots past Dartmouth's keeper.

The Red had a number of quality opportunities in the firs half and the Dartmouth D and in particular their goalkeeper (I can't bring my self to call him a sieve) did an outstanding job stopping a number of close in shots. The pipes were his friend as well as there were at least 3 clangers that went wide.

We turned the ball over a lot and the Green beat us to the loose balls. Dartmouth played their asses off and we did not.

Quote from: billhowardFinal was 8-6 Dartmouth.
And that counts two meaningless Cornell goals in the last minute.  First period was the killer, as Cornell outshot Dartmouth 11-1, hit two or three pipes, and were stoned on at least four shots right from the crease.  Zero goals to show for it.  Dartmouth played a very deliberate game, using up clock and waiting for good opportunities.  As the game wore on, Cornell started taking poor shots, particularly with the game tied 4-4 in the third.  Dartmouth came to play after last year's 19-6 beating...and they did.  Solid game for the team, and a great game for their goalie (23 saves).

The last Green goal was an empty netter.

This article, written from a Dartmouth point of view, captures the game very well: http://www.vnews.com/04042010/6507542.htm

Just like Dartmouth's men's hockey victory over Cornell made that team's season, this win has made the Dartmouth lacrosse team's season. Hopefully, we can pick up a big win somewhere down the line of someone like Syracuse or Princeton. I'm not optimistic, though.
