To clarify: I guess they don't intend this as a list of THE FIVE BEST EVER, just a list of five really great college players from a while ago.

Here's a particularly well-written sentence from the article:

"So here are, among those players from decades ago, who you may no longer remember, that are five of the top players ever to play college hockey, along with a brief description of why they deserve to be on this list."
