Hockey-related events at Reunion

I am excited to be heading to my 25th reunion.

I don't see any hockey-related events in the reunion information. I would love to skate at Lynah but I understand that the ice is not maintained year round. But is it at least possible to tour the new and improved Lynah? I haven't seen this offered. Is anyone aware of such events, formal or informal?

Thanks,

Oh man, that sucks!  The rink was definitely open through the summer two years ago, and I was really looking forward to skating there and possibly hauling up my gear and playing some pickup.

Anyone have a spare comet they could crash into the earth?  If we kick up enough dust, maybe we can have Bebe frozen in time for the weekend.  Plus it'd shut the envirowhiners up. ;)

Edited to add:
Actually, is there enough interest in playing some alumni pickup that we should look into renting out Lansing for an hour?

IIRC there usually is summer ice but it's usually not until late June or July.  So no love for reunion.

Saturday there's a breakfast with coaches and the athletic department in Teagle (or was last time I reunioned). It's mostly for returning ex-players but it's a nice informal event for everyone.

The usual pattern is melt the ice at the end of the season (March or April), they lay it down again in time for the summer youth camps.  This year the camps run July 8 - August 16.  I remember at least one reunion that I attened they used it for class dinners Friday and Saturday nights, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year.

The Rink is open.  Adult open hockey 6:00-7:30 AM Friday. http://www.therink.org/NewSite/icetimeCalenders/June2007.html

Thanks for the info all.

The breakfast in Teagle sounds promising but I would feel like a gate crasher since it isn't being advertised as a public event.

I will probably just head on over to Lynah at some point and hope that it is open and that someone is around who will let me see the new facilities.

It would sure be fun to play but if it isn't in Lynah then it probably isn't worth schlepping my gear on a plane. I am only a beginner player anyway.

In years past the Teagle breakfast was on the master calendar of events. You're supposed to sign up in advance. Just for the heck of it, I just walked in, asked if there was room, paid my $5, and had a nice informal chat with a half-dozen coaches including sitting with Mike Schafer for about 15 minutes. I tried to avoid talking about the good old days for me and listening to what they've got as interests and concerns.

I forget if it's advertised for former players and managers, but if it is, nobody cares. Reunion is a magical time when everyone is nice to you and no parking tickets get issued.

Thanks for the pep talk Bill. I will look into it. There is a talk with the AD scheduled. Perhaps that is one and the same event.

Now, getting up early enough for breakfast is another issue.::coffee::

In case anyone was wondering, a few of us did get a tour of Lynah and the new facilities....but it wasn't easy.

At first, I was upset to find Lynah locked tight on Saturday afternoon. even the peek-a-boo windows from Bartels were shut. All during Friday and Saturday I asked anyone official looking that I came across if they could open up Lynah. It was to no avail.

Then on Saturday evening we were having a class reception on Schoellkopf Terrace. I was roaming around the building and I saw a Building Care person let an alum into one of the locked football rooms. I immediately pounced on her and asked if she had a key to Lynah. I thought that she would laugh me off but she immediate got on the phone and five minutes later she had the keys and we were on a private tour. We probably even saw more than we should have. When we returned to the reception and others found out about our little jaunt they wanted to go too. She immediately turned around and gave another private tour.

I just thought that folks here should know that there are people who work for Cornell athletics who do care. Here's to you Dawn!::banana::

I see that Krantz maintains his flowing locks all summer long. ::innocent::

But the real question...was there still a locker space for Milo?

Man, it's a good thing Cornell has a reputation for helping smaller players bulk up.

Like it or not, the Athletics folks are under strict orders to pretend to care during Reunion weekend.  :-P

Everyone is a comedian.:)

Unfortunately, I didn't notice if Milo still had a locker. Actually most of the lockers were completely cleaned out with the name tags removed. Only a handful looked like the ones in the photo.
