Finger Lakes - the new lax capital

Note the concentration of power in college lacrosse this year:

Cortland State, winner last year in Division III and runner-up this year: Finger Lakes region

LeMoyne, in Syracuse, won its third Division II title in four years: Finger Lakes region. (Over Mercyhurst.)

Cornell in Division I: Finger Lakes region.

Then there's Syracuse, the DI power to be reckoned with for all but one of the last 22 (?) years.

Not exactly something that takes away the sting of Saturday's outcome.

And don't forget Onondaga Community College completed its second undefeated season and second NJCAA National Championship.

I was all set to call you on Syracuse being in the Finger Lakes region, but apparently it is now.  When did that happen?  Guess I'm getting old and the world has shifted!

If Syracuse is in the Finger Lakes region, would it be a stretch to include Albany, too? Ithaca College also had a pretty good year. I'm fairly sure they're in the Finger Lakes region. :-)

At a time like this, should we quibble over a few miles of geography? While it does not sit directly on one of the seven Finger Lakes, Syracuse is 20 miles from Skaneateles and Otisco Lakes, the two easternmost Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes region is generally agreed to include 14 counties: Monroe, Wayne, Chemung, Tioga, Schuyler, Steuben, Cortland, Cayuga, Yates, Ontario, Livingston, Onondaga, Seneca and Tompkins. Syracuse is the county seat of Onandaga County.

Albany would be a stretch to be considered part of the Finger Lakes, but not as much as a stretch as it was for Delaware and not the Danes to be in the final four.
