The CSTV website has a video of a skating treadmill pioneered by Cornell. Kevin McLeod, Ed Kelly, and Mike Schafer comment. It only cost $100,000.

Awesome link, RedAR.  Thanks.

This is the first full year of using it?  I'm pretty sure I've seen it the past couple of years in the Ramin room...in the closet with the garage door like opening exactly opposite of the climbing wall.

Very cool video, thanks for posting the link!

Good PR for Cornell whether Cornell's PR staff generated the lead for CSTV or Adam W passed along the idea or some other way. The device apparently isn't exclusive to Cornell and it's been around for a bit. http://www.frappieracceleration.com/equipment/hockey.html

All this makes for better conditioned, more technically skilled athletes and it gives Cornell an advantage over the majority of schools that don't have it ... until every other D1 school follows suit, at which point, what ... you have parity but everyone has spent $100K-plus also to get there.

North Dakota has an underwater treadmill, though more for rehab, apparently: http://www.hydroworx.com/customer_profiles/customer_profile.aspx?custID=29

And then will it filter down to high school hockey programs? Or will club teams have it but not high schools, further eroding the quality of HS sports? As if youth sports aren't already taking up enough time and money. There's a youth hockey camp in Minnesota for kids 9 and up that features a hockey treadmill. http://www.letsplayhockey.com/features.html

Those gloomy thoughts aside, the treadmill probably does benefit Cornell because not every school will get it ... Cornell has a couple years' advantage on the schools that haven't gotten it yet ... and if Cornell and Cornell players believe in conditioning more than its competitors, that's an advantage, too. Now if we can just get those Lynah locker rooms upgraded.

I didn't bother watching the clip on CSTV's website, but if it is not clear from that, the clip aired as an in-between period segment on their recent Friday Night Hockey broadcast, so some non-ECACHL folk certainly got to see it.

My computer is about 1,000 years old so I can't have a look at the clip, but my worthless contribution to this thread will be to say that they have some sort of Precor skating machine at my gym. It makes me feel like quite the little badass skater because I seem to be the only one who knows how to use it. GRRRRR!

My computer is brand new and I can't look at the clip so don't feel bad.

Roy, if you go to cstv.com, they have a link to the video clip using Windows Media Player. Maybe that will work better for you.

Thanks RedAR. I worked with Windows.
