With the win tonight Cornell goes to 20-6-2, marking the 15th 20 win season in the program's history. (That may not sound impressive to any visiting Westerners, or even Clarkson fans, but with the Ivy League game limitations it's pretty good).  It's the first 20 win season since '97 and the first 20 win regular season since '78.  The Cornell record for most RS wins is 24, in '70, of course.

If Cornell were to win out (hey, what the hell), they would finish with 20 + 1 RS + 4 ECAC + 4 NCAA = ... drum roll ... 29 wins, tying the school record.

...and breaking the somewhat-less-meaningful record for "total games played in a season", with 37... (I'm assuming the old record was 35 in '97?)

If the Big Red close out the regular season with a win tonight against Union, then they will finish with their best league record in 30 years!  (17-3-2)  ('72:  17-3)

Also, Cornell is currently tied for the 4th most points in their conference history:

42 1970
39 1967
38 1968
38 1969
34 2002
34 1972
33 1977
33 1978

Even a tie tonight will give this year's team sole possession of Cornell's best RS points total outside of the Harkness era (and beating 3 of Ned's 7 years, for that matter).

Most RS points by coach:

42 Ned Harkness, 1970
34 Mike Schafer, 2002 (one game to play)
34 Dick Bertrand, 1972
31 Brian McCutcheon, 1991
29 Lou Reycroft, 1985

> ...Cornell is currently tied for the 4th most points in their conference history:

According to your list, wouldn't that be a tie for 5th?  (Still VERY impressive, but with varying numbers of league games played per season (anywhere from 18 to 23 since '65), a ranking by winning percentage might be more "fair"...??)

Cornell's league record was 17-3 in '71 (as well as in '72).  The colored bar graph in TBRW?'s "Curiosities" page seems to show a '71 season with two missing wins and a mysterious tie, thus "shorting" that year by 3 points.  With a correct(?) '71 total of 34 points (I could, of course, be totally wrong on that...), we're apparently in a *3-way* tie for 5th most points in Cornell's ECAC history.

A win or a tie tonight would indeed place this Big Red league season in history as having the most points outside of Ned's "Fantastic Four" years, and having the best league winning percentage since the '66-'73 seasons (and a *win* tonight would beat '73... not even gonna consider a loss...).

zg88,

Correct on all counts, and now corrected on TBRW?
