Any way to get rid of all the Russian spam posts?

I am hoping we can get some clarity from the moderators on when the (1) spam and (2) inability for new members to sign up may get taken care of. Seems people have things going on in their private lives which is taking precedence over these things, which is understandable, but perhaps some of these duties can be handed off to those with greater availability.

I think Beeeej has been clearing them, but presumably has kinda given up for now. Sucks though because even when I want to go read through the older posts, 70% of them are Belarusian dentists or printers or shit like that.

My tip is, when you open the forums, go to unread posts, read the stuff that isn't spam, and then mark everything else as read.

That's what I've been doing.

For my own curiosity, and since I doubt virtually anyone on this forum can read Russian (or whatever language those posts are in), what do the spammers hope to accomplish by posting their gibberish here?

I'm pretty sure it's some automated crap. Most of the accounts are super old; they just "wake up" to post the stuff. And most of them have like, [Slavic name][3 characters]-type usernames. On the old forum, the Cyrillic characters tripped them up and so they couldn't post it. And I'm pretty sure most of it links to crypto and scam downloads and shit. Basically just angling for a single click. Shit could've been set up a decade ago. We don't know.

this trick also works for the "russian spam" threads
