There were a few bright spots for the league last night even if not in the tournament formerly known as Everblades.

The Badger Showdown will have an all east final with Colgate beating Wisconsin in a 1-0 shootout after a 2-2 tie.  Northeastern beat Bowling Green for the other spot.  I'll wager there was an increase in beer consumption in Madison last night.::drunk::

Dartmouth beat Northern Michigan in the Denver Cup and meets Denver tomorrow.

Yale beat Nebraska-Omaha in a game outside of the tournaments.

None of these really qualify as upsets as all the opponents have had mediocre seasons to this point.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

Ah, but it also contained ironic punctuation.

RPI continues its string of 3rd period collapses and loses to CC on a goal with 7 seconds left...

Harvard dropped their first-round game 4-2 to OSU, and faces St. Cloud in the consolation today.

I think that what was in my head at the time concerned any out of conference win by an ECACH team - especially against a western school - as being an upset in the minds of many WCHA fans.

Considering that the ECACH's OOC record is 37-46-9 this year, any OOC win is at least a borderline upset. Unless a couple of teams step it up during conference play, it is likely that the ECACH will have only one team in the NCAAs.

On a positive note, SUCKS lost to that CCHA powerhouse St. Cloud State 4-1 to finish last at the Ohio Hockey Classic.

On a negative note, RIP finished last in the Lightning Classic.  Even so, Cornell will have their hands full in Troy on January 11th.  RPI lost to CC on Saturday with 7 seconds left in the third period after being up 2-0 after two.  Their 3-1 loss to Notre Dame Sunday included an ENG.

The real upset there was U Mass over Colorado College 5-4 in the final.

The only high note for ECAC H Sunday was Quinnapiac over Vermont to win Vermont's tournament. Rah rah!

I agree that we're going to have our hands full with RPI. Their record is misleading, since they're 0-7 against teams ranked in the Top Ten, and most of their losses have been close games. That means they've either won or tied almost every other game they've played. They've definitely played a much tougher schedule so far than we have, and it would be a mistake to look at their record and assume it's a pushover win for us. Of course, the way we're playing this year, there's no such thing as a pushover win for us anyway!

I was surrounded by UMass [Edit: Amherst] players on the flight home from [Tampa] Florida today. As expected, they were quite jubilant about their tournament victory this weekend.

One reminder that these were not Ivy League players:
Player #1: "Hey...is that the Atlantic Ocean?"
Player #2: "No; that's the sky."

They open the second half of their season with a home and home vs. UHN.
The real upset there was U Mass over Colorado College 5-4 in the final.
Not necessarily, considering how many players CC was missing for various reasons.
