We had a great time in Ithaca this past weekend.  The two wins represented two fantastic hockey games, and for those of us who reside on the West Coast, they were truly some good Cornell hockey that will sustain us for months.  (Plans are afoot to roadtrip to Cambridge in February 2003...)

Rebecca and I want to know ::help:: :  When and how the Baby cheer started?  It seemed to me that the fans only sang it in the third period, but for what reason was never clear to me.  I stand to be enlightened...:-)

The band has had the song "Hey baby!" in its folders for a while.  In the music, there is a spot where band members are instructed to sing the refrain "Heeeeyyy...Hey baby!  I wanna knooooowww, If you'll be my girl."  Full lyrics to the original song are here:

When Stephen Baby came to the hill, the band naturally started playing the song more often, and someone altered the lyrics to the current "Hey Baby, I wanna know, will you kill someone (please kill someone!)" (given his giant stature).  The faithful caught on, the song was shortened to cheer length, it was added to the Dunbar's jukebox, and the rest is history.

It was only sung in the 3rd period, because that's when the band happened to play it.  It can happen at any point in the game.

We used to laugh that the song was never played when Steve was actually on the ice.

Hehe. Age's automagic circumflexizer munges the URL Hovorka posted.   Swap a plain ole a into Baby and it should work.

Work is no longer an excuse to live near an ECACHL team... :(
