I agree that the threaded view is a pain....I only wish that the
  (new)   indicator showed up next to each message in the

I think what people dont realize about officiating is that nobody aspires to be an ECAC official.

The refs who are good just use it as a steppingstone to the minors.  I dont know if Alex Dell is still reffing any ECAC games, but he did for a few years, before he started doing AHL games.  The good refs also never acquire any seniority in the ECAC, which I guess is why they never get to ref the finals, and you get the reigns of Pierre and the more recent jokes.

Nice plug mentioning Dad captaining the Cornell Championship team....sort of makes up for the fact that Cornell didn't get mentioned with all the other schools during the womens hockey medal ceremonies.


And it was also nice to hear Great Neck North mentioned. (sorry Jordan, couldn't resist)

Greg, I agree with your assessment of the Fuscos....they were outstanding at the collegiate level.

I don't know if this choice will bring back bad memories, but the second best player I saw for Cornell - factoring in what we thought was potential- was Gary Cullen his freshman year.   It looked like he would be a superstar, but he just coasted away the last 3 years, and may have been the biggest disappointment in the end.

I think PJ's Pancake house in Princeton is worth mentioning as a pre/post game meal ....especially if you like chocolate chip pancakes with whip cream.

I must confess being clueless about the Chariot's corn nuggets...can anyone describe what these are?  I was a regular at the Chariot, but I loved the sweet dough pizza they made....is that still unchanged?

Joe was definitely the best Cornell player I have seen (since 1980). I just missed Nethery, so someone else has to do that comparison.  Tredway was a great scorer, but not well rounded enough to make it in the NHL.

I remember watching Joe as a Freshman... at the beginning of the season he was getting so many chances, but rarely capitalizing.  Everyone was waiting for the puck to start going in, and it did at about Christmas break, and never stopped for the rest of his Cornell Career.

I also recall  stories that he jumped to the Flames because he got a guarantee that they would fund the remainder of his education for as long as he wanted, even if he didnt make it in the NHL.

The only other ECAC players I saw who were possibly better than Joe were RPI's Adam Oates, who has proven his worth in the NHL, and Vermont's Kirk McCaskill, who gave up on hockey and pitched in the Majors instead.

Greg, I could have written that  post about waiting for the WGC in the cold....i never did trust those people who ordered and waited in their cars or inside the truck's street-side door.

The other thing missing from West Campus is the Dust Bowl.   Where did
freshman learn to play ultimate when they ruined (beautified) it?

And Purity Ice Cream, as previously mentioned is a long lived institution, available at Olivers (doesnt exist anymore) or at that Scoop Shop (doesnt exist anymore) in the Straight, as well as down on Rt. 13 at the factory.

One final note: I agree that the most recent incarnation of Joe's was mediocre, but the early 80's version was delicious.  I dont know how many Joe's there have been, maybe someone here does.

The Ivy Title definitely meant something when it was the Ivy division of the ECAC Conference (Late 70's until the Hockey East departure).  It meant one of the top 3 seeds in the ECAC tournament that had 8 participants from a 17 team league.

And now....feeling perfectly free to use "We" for Cornell:

I dont know if we have lost to Dartmouth twice in one season since 1980, but in 1980 we lost to them THREE times...and still won the game that mattered.  We lost 2 regular season games, and the NCAA consolation game...but we won the ECAC Championship.  I guess it all worked out, because apparently Dartmouth really treasures that Ivy title, and we dont really miss it, considering the ECAC one we got that year.
