The other ECAC schools are recruiting surprisingly well. Harvard as usual is doing well with high draft picks, Quinnipiac bringing in some more huge CHL scorers, Clarkson and RPI also getting some decent CHL guys. The big surprise for me is Saint Lawrence who looks to have tricked two draft picks and another draft eligible who will probably go this year into coming. We'll see how many of those actually come to fruition.

Forgot to post after the end of Charlie Arend's season. 20 year old forward for Dubuque of the USHL. 43 points in 52 games, a big step up from the previous two years. I don't see him factoring in this upcoming season but hopefully can be a piece for us later in his career.

Well, he's the President, so that means he gets to decide all the important things. Like divesting from Israel. And the people who hate Israel are VERY loud about it. And think they're right. So...
He does not decide if we divest from Israel

Louis Wehmann and the penticton bees season ended yesterday, they did way better than I expected moving up from the BCHL to the WHL. Wehmann is a 20 year old LW who posted 37 points in 68 regular season games. Not superb numbers but I am actually very bullish on him as a fourth/third liner in college. He turned up for playoffs with 13 points in 15 games. Seems like a high energy and high physicality player and he can fight damn well, look up his fights.

My hopes for the lines next year:

Kraft-Walsh-Ryan
Long-Zadvernyuk-Major
Hiscock-DiGiulian-Devlin
Wehmann-Catalano-Armstrong

Veilleux-Fegaras
Ashton-Tuminaro
Randle-Fisher

Rousseau

ES: Pirtle or Gorski depending if you want a forward or a D.

This is my wish, not what I would actually guess. I think it is so obvious that Digiulian needs to play center but Casey loves having Manor in that spot instead for some reason. I already hate having 2 lefties on the right side at forward but we have so many talented lefties it kind of has to happen. I would imagine that these two lefty winger lines pair with our righty centers so that they can play along the right side boards if need be. I love the idea of a super gritty, get under your skin fourth line so that's what I put but wouldn't be surprised to see a better scorer like Pirtle or Arend get time instead of Wehmann.

On D I bet Casey sticks with Fegaras and Ashton but I think 6 and 4 would pair pretty well. I also like the idea of having Ashton and Tuminaro together as 2 massive bodies, and I think Tuminaro will show pretty quickly that he needs more ice time than fisher.

At goalie the depth should pretty clearly be Rousseau-Roest-Katz in that order, so not a lot to say there.

Quote from: BearLover on April 22, 2026, 04:15:26 PMRated 114 by NHL Central Scouting. We now have recruits at 96, 112, and 114 in this year's rankings, plus Caton Ryan at 177.

Clearly a great pickup. Hard to figure any rhyme or reason in our recruiting philosophy, the kids we're recruiting span the gamut of location, age, league, pro potential. Not complaining, just find it interesting. Hopefully they all want a good education and that's the commonality among them.
I do like that we have been getting USHL defensemen and Q goalies so far, those seem to be the clear strong points of those leagues.

Quote from: stereax on April 22, 2026, 03:32:16 PMAs per a regional scout, Daniel Walters is coming to Cornell.

'26 draft eligible. 18yo so probably not this year. "Hard-hitting", has "some bite" (110 PIMs in 63 games, 15G 15A this year with Halifax in the Q).
Nice pickup, over 50% on faceoffs, just turned 18.

Anyone have any info on the schedule for next year? Will it just be the return trips from all the series this year? And any guesses for MSG? Will we use the extra Ivy game this year?

Maddex Marmulak's season ended last week. 18 year old center played as the 3C for the Newfoundland Regiment all year. 27 points in 64 games, very little improvement from last year. Also was not good on faceoffs, just under 47%. Needs a good bit of development, so we'll see what he can do next season back in the Q.

He's like the more talented version of Ian Shane that will wash up in the AHL instead of the ECHL, we'll be just fine

Quote from: BearLover on April 20, 2026, 11:49:48 AMThat part I got. But his reasoning for transferring is what I want to know, and that is still a mystery. Did he transfer because he though Wisconsin would give him a better opportunity to sign pro? Because he was struggling in school/didn't want to go to class anymore? "He only cares about hockey" seems clear, but why transfer? I can think of several reasons, but we don't have much clarity as to the ones that led to the decision, other than maybe a vague allusion to the "education" bit.
I think it's pretty clear that if he doesn't care about the degree and is ready to jump ship to the pros ASAP, he'd rather be someplace that has the B1G's NIL budget, scholarship generosity and academic support (TAs who will take his exams). I don't know if Cornell's coaching/schedule came into it at all but it seems secondary. I honestly doubt that MTL cares very much which program he was at.
That's true but it seems relevant which of those purported reasons was decisive. It's vague as to which of the following affected his decision and to what degree:
—he wanted more of a challenge (I suspect it's not this but that's basically the answer he gave to the Wisconsin journalist)
-money, whether scholarship or NIL (not mentioned in either of the articles but could of course be a reason)
-he didn't want to go to school (sort of alluded to by Casey but only if you squint)

I know people roll their eyes when I harp on this stuff but it's a lot different if a kid is dipping because he has to pay tuition versus because he thinks the ECAC is weak versus because he isn't a serious student. Yeah the answer could be "all of the above" but in terms of future recruiting it's good to know why a player like this would leave Cornell when so many other good players do not. The coaching staff got burned and it'd be nice to not have that happen again.

roll my eyes is one way to say it ... I mean, if you think the definition of journalism is forcing a run-of-the-mill college hockey player to confess, on the record, all of his deep thoughts about why he transferred, just to satisfy the burning curiosity of 10 people who absolutely need to know or it will kill them ... then ... good luck waiting on that.

You've been given way more to infer on this one case, either by my comments here or Jane's articles, than 99.9% of all the other 200 kids that transferred last week and pissed off the fans/coaches of the place they left.
She had Casey on the record. I was hopeful this would reveal more than we already knew, but it didn't. Not expecting her to grill Cournoyer, obviously. I think Jane is a promising journalist and the Sun's hockey coverage has been great, to be clear. But people wanted to know why he transferred and it's still extremely murky.

Do you honestly expect Casey to trash a kid on the record, or that it would be a good idea if he did?

I mean, this goes for every other coach too.

"Well, the kid is clueless, he lied to us in his meeting and then had his agent start calling around. Turns out he wasn't a good student and he decided he wanted the money more than a Cornell education."

What would be the benefit in a coach saying something like this? Assuming this is true.
I would have asked: "Did Cournoyer provide a reason for transferring?" and "when did he inform you of the transfer?", to start. You're gonna get coach-speak either way, but at least this way we'd get more specificity while not forcing Casey to disclose anything he doesn't want to.
I think you get the exact same answer. Jane can't put Casey under oath.
We're very lucky with the amount of info Casey gives us already. Lots of coaches I've had experience with will either straight up lie, constantly give you boring "media trained" responses, or avoid talking to media altogether.

Yeah Dec is the kind of guy that isn't going to be too useful on the third or fourth line, so maybe it makes sense in that way. Whereas Wehmann, Armstrong, Hughes could excel on the fourth line. Plus we have a shit ton of left wingers already. Just don't want to send him back and risk losing him.
