Hockey / Any Questions for Schafer?
June 08, 2016, 09:42:31 AM
Mike Schafer will be the speaker at one of the class of '86 reunion breakfasts this weekend.  Anyone have any questions for him?

Great article on Cornell Wrestling and Coach Koll.  It talks about how he uses the state schools to get less academic candidates, which I bet will offend some.  It also talks about how he thought Cornell would be a steppingstone to bigger and better, but he now has a much longer view.  As someone who lived 3 years in his hometown of State College PA, I know how similar that is to Ithaca, and I am not surprised that he would feel comfortable and be ready to settle down forever at Cornell.

Hockey / PWR Question
January 09, 2009, 02:29:42 PM
I must be missing something obvious, but in both the TBRW/JTW PWR, and the USCHO PWR, when I look at the mini-table for a head-to-head comparison, neither team ever has a point for TUC.

If I am reading it right, adding that point would definitely flip some comparisons (eg. Northeaster/Vermont).

Hockey / HockeyCam - Sun Investigative journalism?
February 07, 2003, 05:26:21 PM
After feeling depressed again about our lack of HockeyCam following the Colgate game (which was actually my first experience with a HockeyCam), I was wondering if some ex-Sun staffers could let me know why this issue wasn't worthy of some investigative journalism.

Wouldn't it have been a great story if an upper-classman actually commented that it stinks that his parents and friends back home can't watch him this year.

Wouldn't it have been even better if a freshman said that watching the games last year was able to give him more exposure to Cornell Hockey.

Do we know if anyone from the Sun even thought to go ask the team questions like this, or was this whole thing considered a total non-issue for people who could just go to the games if they cared enough?

Hockey / Can the Belt get to Ithaca?
November 06, 2002, 10:15:35 AM
Sorry to have a vaguely hockey related thread, but I just noticed that BU is now holder of the Championship Belt.  If they can win their next 5 games - all at home - then Cornell will get a chance to claim it.

BU schedule until they come to Ithaca:

Sat 11/09/2002     Merrimack         7:00 ET
Fri 11/15/2002     Boston College         7:00 ET
Sat 11/16/2002     Maine         7:00 ET
Thu 11/21/2002     Mass.-Lowell         7:00 ET
Tue 11/26/2002     Harvard (nc)         7:00 ET

Hockey / Maximizing Pairwise
March 02, 2002, 11:54:27 PM
Currently, we lose 5 pairwise comparisons: BU, UNH, Maine, Mich, and MSU

So,  what -  as far as i can tell -  has to happen to make things as positive as possible:

ECAC final 5: Cornell, Clarkson, RPI, Colgate, Brown

Brown beats Colgate in play-in

Cornell Beats Brown, then Clarkson/RPI winner.

This makes Cornell 9-3 against TUCs, since Dartmouth falls out.

UNH loses to BU in HE tournament, giving Cornell that pairwise win, since our Common Opponents and TUC beat UNH.

root for Maine, Mich, and Mich St. to choke in the first round of their respective tournaments, because we need to beat them in RPI to win our pairwise (tiebreaker) with each of them.

Forget about beating BU...especially because we need them to beat UNH.

If all goes perfectly, we could end up winning all pairwise except BU....and then waltz into a bye.....

Edit: while figuring this out, we lost pairwise to Minn. but that will reverse if Dartmouth goes down and our TUC goes back to beating Minn.
