Start the thread.  Cornell secondary will have a rough time covering Penn's NFL prospect-the wideout Richardson.

Starting the thread:
Last Saturday Cornell's defensive backfield had trouble covering the deep pass routes.  Credit has to go to the Brown qb  who was dropping the passes in great position for his receivers.  Cornell's receivers stepped up last week and lets hope they keep it going and that Doryn Smith is available to play.  Princeton is beatable IMO and am hopeful that Cornell steps up tomorrow.

Subject: FW: Ivy Sports Zoom-September 9

Dear All- Ivy athletics are at a crossroads. We are currently in an era in which NIL and revenue share dominant the landscape. The Ivy has opted out of revenue share which derived from the 2025 settlement of the House case, ostensibly because of the roster limitations. Apparently, Yale and others need football teams to have up to 130 players, while the rest of college programs like Alabama and Ohio State can live with rosters capped at 105. The only other league which has opted out in full is the Patriot and it is believed that some Patriot schools will opt in next year. NIL is now governed by the College Sports Commission which is rejecting clear "pay for play" deals.. The Ivy is currently discussing an even more restrictive set of principles. While the Ivy has and never has had any level of jurisdiction to outlaw NIL, it has done all in its power to discourage and attempt to prevent member institutions from cooperating with collectives and have discouraged deep pocketed alumni from creating them. This approach is antithetical to both the holding and concurrence (Kavanaugh) of the pivotal 2021 Alston Decision, which permits additional educational benefits to student-athletes and urged a free market for compensating college athletes.  The Ivy also has an archaic rule prohibiting grad transfers from participating in Ivy athletics. The League has seen the defection of players like Jordan Dingle, Xaivian Lee, Tyler Perkins and many, many more. Not only men's college basketball is under siege. Throw in hockey, football, lacrosse, women's basketball and tennis. Expect Ivy athletes to defect in large numbers next Spring. There are some simple fixes which can be suggested and presented directly to the Ivy Presidents. We intend to hold a zoom on September 9 at 7 pm to explore options and ultimately to make recommendations. This is not for the casual fan. It is for constituents like former players, donors and concerned alumni. I was told last fall that the Ivy Presidents are on top of this issue and dealt with it for 70% of their time last September-October. That is inaccurate. Please let me know if you are interested in receiving an invite and also if you have specific issues which you desire to be discussed. That would be helpful. Also, if you have names of other individuals who might be interested, please let me know. Richard Kent

Other Sports / Question?
May 31, 2025, 09:13:10 AM
Does any one have any idea what sport Dr Moore was referring to in her "Big Red Threads" newsletter? It was a reference to not allowing a Cornell teammto attend some competition.

Other Sports / Cornell Sun???

I believe there are some former Sun people on this board.  Any explanation why men's and women's basketball gets such scarce coverage this season?

Other Sports / Feinstein's The Ancient 8
January 23, 2025, 10:15:41 AM
Have long been an admirer of John Feinstein's writing but in my view his recent book on Ivy League football is not one of his better efforts. Too much play by play and not enough insights. There is some good material on former Cornell coach Dave Archer though so from that vantage point the book is worth a read.

Start the thread.
Can Cornell's offense score against a good Columbia defense and will Cornell's defense show similar effort as it did vs Dartmouth.
#11
New Thread. We will see how Cornell does against an excellent Dartmouth defense.

Go for 2 in a row.  Penn has some excellent skills guys.

Starting another thread.  I'd like to see more run plays too but the o -line has to win the scrimmage line. A pick'em game IMO.

Harvard's level of talent pretty similar to Albany's.  Will be curious to see how Cornell's d-line holds up on a short week.

On paper it looks like Jon Jacques is bringing in a good recruiting class. Two big men should help the interior defense.
