Hockey / WTF Is Going On?
September 29, 2025, 12:44:56 PM
So I had to do an emergency server upgrade on Friday night to, you know, an OS that wasn't, you know, 11 years old. Moving to a new version of PHP put the last nail in the coffin of Phorum, which hasn't been updated since Cornell played on Beebe Lake.

So it was time. SMF seems like a good, robust, free, and actively developed solution which included a migration script from Phorum... that really, really didn't work without a lot of massaging, but I got there. Everyone's accounts should be converted, along with your existing password. Posts and messages should all be here. Avatars, apparently did not make the trip.

This theme is a placeholder. There are likely a lot of broken things, but as I'm still putting out other fires with the server swap, I'll look into them when everything has settled. No need to tell me about what you find. Yet.

Sorry for the inconvenience. It certainly wasn't planned, but it's definitely the best thing to happen for this forum's future. I can implement some proper spam checks and stuff, for starters.

Hockey / Ask the Coach: 2017 Edition
June 05, 2017, 10:09:51 AM
Coach Schafer has been gracious enough to offer to answer questions from the Faithful again! We'll probably do this around the start of the season, but no reason we can't start collecting questions from all of you in the meantime, so ask away!

As dismal as student participation has been of late, I've also been pretty dismayed at the state of the cowbell. It's been going since 1969 in various forms, and I'll be damned if it gets claimed by apathy, too. For years after I gave it up, there was always good communication with my successors to make sure the cheer would always be represented at home and on the road. These days, students rarely travel and handing off the cowbell to the band on your way out of the rink is just not acceptable.

I'm not blaming the band for anything but the cowbell cheer isn't, has never been, and shouldn't be a band thing. We can do better than that. The biggest thing to improve the situation is simply communication, so I've started a Google Group for cowbell alums (and current students). Even if you don't travel to games any more, it would be nice to have you, but if you do, I implore you to join the group so we can at least make an effort to have someone at every game (and know when the current CBG isn't going to be there).

Join the group!

Hockey / Sorry for the downtime
October 16, 2012, 09:33:18 AM
Migrated to a new server last night and the DNS propagation for the forum took hours longer than all the others for some reason. On the plus side, the server is much, much faster, and located in D.C. instead of Dallas so performance should be a lot better under heavy load. Enjoy!

After a very lengthy development process, we are proud to announce the release of the College Hockey News iPhone (and iPod Touch) App! We were hoping to get it into everyone's hands much earlier in the season, but we also wanted to get it right. Features include a full schedule for every D1 team, Pairwise rankings, conference standings, and of course all the latest CHN News. You can even pick your favorite team! The app is free and available immediately.

We'll have more features added before the next season gets under way, but we welcome any feedback before then. For more information and to download the app:

We did this several years ago and I meant to make it a more regular thing, but obviously that didn't happen. However we're doing it now! For the next few weeks, I'll be accepting questions to ask Coach Schafer in an interview to be conducted later this summer.

If you have questions you'd like asked, please SEND ME A PM with your question. Do not post questions here.

Not all questions will be used and questions that are used may be edited. Do not ask questions about specific recruits that have not yet been announced. Coach Schafer cannot and will not discuss them.

If you want a refresher of the last interview we did, you can find it here: http://www.elynah.com/?articles&id=34
