ITHACA, N.Y. -- Following the successful completion of a $4 million fundraising campaign, Cornell Athletics will move forward with Phase 2 of the Cornell Field Hockey Complex, which includes construction of a team clubhouse and indoor training facility slated for completion in summer 2027.

The Phase 2 fundraising effort was fueled by a broad, collaborative coalition of Cornell alumni and supporters, reflecting a shared belief in the power of athletics to shape leadership, community and opportunity. While women's athletics alumnae and advocates played a leading role in the campaign, the effort also benefited from meaningful support from donors who have historically invested in men's athletics, supported other areas of the university, or were making their first gift to athletics.

Lead gifts from Marsha Dodson '75, Karin Bain Kukral '82, and Rebecca Quinn Morgan '60 made possible the construction of the indoor practice facility, completing the vision for a championship-caliber home for Cornell Field Hockey. Their leadership, along with the relentless work of a project advisory group and a project development committee (noted below), helped inspire a groundswell of participation that ultimately brought the project across the finish line.

I hope the athletic department is working on an athletics fund raising campaign to next replace the Teagle pool and Schoellkopf Stadium improvements as well.

Well my guess for who might be the new DC to replace Jared Backus was wrong.  I thought it might be UPenn DC Bob Benson.  Breaking news:

Cornell (FCS - NY): Ithaca (D-III - NY) head coach Mike Toerper is stepping down and will become defensive coordinator at Cornell.

Cornell has lost 4 straight games to Columbia. My keys to the game:  Cornell run defense was exposed last game against Dartmouth, allowing DJ Crowther to rush for 197 yards.  Columbia is led by an excellent freshman rb in Michael Walters who broke Columbia's freshman rushing record last week with 123 yards.  Can they shut Walters down will be a defensive key.  Offensively, Cornell only netted 41 rushing yards against Dartmouth.  Cornell freshman rb John McAuliffe, didn't play very much in the Penn game, and not all in the Dartmouth game, so I assume was injured.  Can Jordan Triplet carry the Cornell rushing load himself is a big key.

Regardless of the outcome of this game I've been surprised by the season turnaround this team has displayed.  Early 1st quarter field goal Dartmouth leading 3-0.  Cornell drove to the Dartmouth 10 only to be penalized for holding on a nice run by Triplett.

Other Sports / Cornell takes on Brown
October 25, 2025, 11:23:16 AM
Brown has had an up and down season so far.  They beat an at the time top 10 FCS ranked U of Rhode Island team early in the season, but are looking for their 1st Ivy win today after going 3-0 in out of conference games.  As they showed they can do last week, Cornell must limit giving the ball away on offense, and hopefully continue to rely on the rushing attack.

Unless Cornell can avoid costly turnovers, this isn't going to end well again. Bucknell has a big offensive line and a pretty good defense. What I'd like to see:

1. More running plays out of the I formation, and less pitch out plays to the RBs.
2. Start to integrate more of the underclassman, especially this years freshman class into the game. Might as well start building for next season when Sam Musungu returns from his injury.

Not a surprise but well deserved.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Michael Huyghue '83, one of football's most prominent and pioneering figures over more than three decades, has been named the Terry Cullen Head Coach of Sprint Football at Cornell University. Huyghue becomes just the fourth head coach of the program since 1957.

"I am thrilled that Michael has accepted this position and will continue to serve as a coach and mentor to our sprint football student-athletes," said Nicki Moore, the Meakem Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Cornell. "Despite the many pulls on his time, at heart he is a loyal and true Cornellian who stepped up to serve when asked. We were so impressed when he shared his vision for the program and how to get there. His multiple and varied roles as a caretaker of the sport perfectly positions him to provide the type of leadership this position demands."

"I started coaching on the Sprint team because my son joined the team a few years ago. I quickly fell in love with the program and stayed on after he graduated," Huyghue said. "I want these student-athletes to not only excel in the classroom, as they do, but by also winning on the football field as well. And so, I am determined to reshape and lead this program with the goal of winning in mind."

Huyghue has been the Big Red's defensive coordinator dating back to 2021 while serving as a tenure-tracked visiting professor at Cornell's Law School and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Quote from: Tonight's game marks the ninth all-time meeting with Cornell, but the teams haven't met since Jan. 24, 1969 when the Buckeyes beat the Big Red 96-78 in Cleveland. Ohio State is 34-18 all-time against the Ivy League. The last time the Buckeyes squared off with a team from the conference was back in the 2007-08 season, when they beat Columbia 68-54 in Columbus as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Cornell enters tonight's game with a 22-7 record on the season, losing their last game 69-57 to Yale in an Ivy League Tournament Semifinal. The Big Red have an offense that can't be overlooked, as they rank in the top-20 in the country in scoring, three-pointers made, assists and field goal percentage.

This marks the first time Cornell has participated in the NIT. Their lone appearance in a postseason tournament that wasn't the NCAA Tournament came at the end of the 2018-19 season when they played in the CIT.
