Quote from: mountainred on November 05, 2025, 07:13:11 PMGood call on Rafiq, I completely forgot about him!  He was the first frosh to play in game 1.  Thought he looked good, but so hard to tell against a D3 opponent.

24/7 lists Nix as the best prospectCornell landed in 20 years.  Better than anyone on the 2010 crew, Matt Morgan, Shonn Miller, anyone.  That should mean something, but if you look at the rest of their top 10, it probably doesn't.  FYI next year recruit Ryan Burbach is 4th on their list.

At worst, the guys will play entertaining, if occasionally frustrating, ball and be around .500.  If Jon hits on a couple of recruits, it could be better.  If he doesn't, next year could be tough.  But I will worry about that later.

Burbach is a freshman this year.

Thanks as always for your informative summary. If Shapiro is fully healthy, do you think he can win it all or is AA now his ceiling?

Nobody knows why he didn't come as part of this year's class so your speculation is just that.

We've benefitted from recruiting flips (Walsh was committed to Brown initially)

Perhaps some NIL money plus the "traditional" full ride athletic scholarship to a traditional blue blood program was enough of an enticement.

Only if you let it. I'm confident we'll continue to recruit very well despite it all.

Quote from: VIEWfromK on November 02, 2025, 01:59:33 AM. I enjoyed that high end zone camera.

I thought the whole broadcast was very good but this stood out to me too. I'd have loved to see more of it. Gives you a much better sense of spacing and movement than the typical angles.

A nice perspective, but I could've used a little bit less of it.

I liked it as variety, a lot.  Particularly helpful on our 5x3.

The broadcast was excellent in general; excellent preparation and execution by the On Air Talent.  My only complaint -- not their fault but the barn's -- was the side cameras were mounted in the next county.

Yeah, it was tough to follow the action around the net from the side view.

Two gritty wins the past two weeks, but we were pretty fortunate to win either game. But these are games we routinely lost in the past, so we'll take 'em.

Quote from: chimpfood on November 01, 2025, 03:24:48 PMDec traded to Erie.

Erie has been offensively challenged, and Owen Sound wanted a more physical foward. Dec has a lot of skill and will almost certainly be a key PP guy when he arrives in Ithaca.

We lack "snap" on offense. QB play is mediocre at best.

Quote from: Ken711Cornell receives a  2026 basketball commitment. Trey Williams, Loyola Academy IL, 6'3 180lbs PG.

We're good at finding guards, not as successful with big men.
Yale has excelled over the past 10 years in bringing in talented big men, which explains their recent success.
I was in the same class as John Bajusz and I recall thinking that he's really good but really good 6'2" guys are easy.  Find a really good 6'8" guy then you have something.

Quote from: VIEWfromK on November 01, 2025, 12:33:19 PMIt could have been from having to kill a penalty to start the game but I thought they were running around a lot of the first period before settling things down. That's a pattern a lot like some of the better teams of the early 2000s.  Survive the first and then get to work.  They were hitting everything in site.  They were looking to shoot first in most cases.  I too wish there had been a replay of the Charlie Major steal and chance.  Again he had no room to make a play yet he made a play.  I'd like the three on one back.  By the time Ryan got the pass back there wasn't much room to shoot.  On the winning goal Cornell won the face-off and Kraft had it on his stick but didn't get enough on the backhand clearing attempt.  I wish he had skated to some open ice before trying to get rid of it instead of being hasty in that crowd.  Of course that's just hindsight.  That was a very well played game.  They are laying a nice foundation for a young team.

I don't see the games on TV like I do in the stands but I really only noticed Walsh during that second period power play where they worked it down to him a couple of times.  I know he was out there for faceoffs but did he have the puck on his stick much the rest of the game?

One aspect we didn't handle well was managing our odd man rushes, particularly the 3 on 1 you mentioned.

We controlled 5 x 5, but missed several great chances and were crushed by the special teams. But there's a lot to like about this team and its prospects for the season.
