Considering timing and travel, I'd say unlikely, but I'd wager there would be Cornell fans in attendance and that there would be an organic clumping together.

So with this new process, if you're there on Saturday you basically get first priority, and then anything left over goes by class later in the week.  I mean, yeah, that makes sense.  That's more or less how it always used to be minus the online aspect I assume.

I just kinda... wasn't interested? Then I went to a game when a friend had tickets late in my sophomore year and immediately said "this is what I've been missing my whole life."

I like the idea, though I'm curious about execution.

My two years with season tickets (wtf was freshman or sophomore me doing) were the 05-06 crowd crush situation that ended the surprise ticket location announcement system, and then the first year they did "let's all have an overnight on the scratchy green indoor turf in Bartels."

Neither was great, really.

i absolutely think student tickets should be heavily subsidized. bl is very right about this one. offer the available seats for non season ticket holders by lottery. something to make sure the house is always packed. even the casuals will get loud if the game is close.

For sure, but iirc most of the student side tix already sell out. I think more of the problem is that there's a cadre of student STH that only come to a few games.

Students get most sporting events free the week of, besides hockey. My student side season tix are I think $220 on the year, give or take, and then another $30 for the women's add on. So $15 a game for men's hockey and probably closer to $9 a game for hockey overall.

What you probably actually want that can be implemented in practice is flex pricing for less important opponents (Holy Cross could be a $5 game) or day-of discounts. Ideally, some way to be like "if you're not scanned in by 7:15 we can give your seat to the next person", but that's a massive stretch.

I haven't been to a game at Lynah in nearly two decades, but I would worry that cheaper tickets would just do what  Stereax is saying and make it easier to buy tickets and not show up.

Kudos to PC.  There may not be another school in all D-1 that would do that.

The partner of a friend who played junior hockey (the partner not the friend) claimed that he was recruited by Harvard but couldn't clear the academics bar.

The funny thing is that he and I would get into political arguments, but "shut up you couldn't play at Harvard for academic reasons" would seem mean-spirited even if he probably wouldn't understand the insult anyway.

Oddly, despite that, I don't think he was lying about his hockey cred. He did know a handful of ECAC guys.

I think it could've been summarized better in one sentence: "Get a large donation from a billionaire alum."

Which I believe is much more doable than any other solution, and will lead to everything else mentioned.

The money part is a second article upcoming. I don't agree though. Plenty of coaches and programs squander good talent and enough resources because they don't recruit the right mix of players, don't develop their players properly, or are poor at executing their systems. I don't think Penn State will ever win a national championship with Gadowsky's run and gun system for example. BU was decidedly mediocre last year because they were too young and soft. Harvard has been squandering their talent for years now (which is why they pushed Donato out). You need the resources, yes, but if you don't have a good system, you're not going to make good on the talent you bring in.

Honestly, it's a tired age-old discussion that always has the same answer. Does Manchester City win because it has the most money or the best system/coaching? Yes. Do the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers win because of the money or the system? Yes.  St. John's made the Sweet 16 again for the first time in 27 years after a billionaire pumped $5 million into the program to pay players.

When people say "money is not the reason you need a good system" - it's a false dichotomy. Everyone knows you need both.  Holy Cross isn't winning a national championship any time soon, no matter what they do.  The greatest coach with the greatest system on god's green earth isn't competing nationally without money.  When the money gap used to be smaller, it was more possible, though having "resources" were still important. Now that the money gap is a giant chasm, it's even more difficult to bridge the gap by being smarter.

Schools like RPI, Clarkson, etc... -- hate to say -- will never be able to compete nationally again without a massive infusion of cash.  Those alums are out there, just need to convince them to spend.

The Mets are out there, fighting the good fight against a salary cap by proving that it's not just money.
