Don't read the Sun.
Until such point as the three-to-five college hockey accounts all move to Bluesky or whatever the fuck, we're going to be using Twitter.

And stop calling it X. It's Twitter.

Actually, it's now Xitter.
Nope. I refuse to acknowledge that.

You do realize how to pronounce that, yes?
Isn't it the same?
more like a toilet but I still call it Twitter also

"Our main story tonight concerns Twitter. Or as it's been called since Elon Musk purchased it a few years ago, Twitter."

Deadnaming it for an entire episode is another example of John Oliver's writing staff's brilliance.

In the last 50 years, the two coaches who did the most for Cornell hockey morale were Mike Schafer and Ted Donato.

Quote from: stereax on July 17, 2026, 03:30:22 PMYou can only fly to IAD from Ithaca lol

But yeah I think if we start seriously planning this it'll be in the fall and I'll figure out my travel then

Fair enough. I keep losing track as to what airlines keep routes in and out of the tiny NY airports like Ithaca and Corning/Elmira. They keep tossing them around like a money-losing hot potato. For years it was either USAir or Continental only with one destination (like PIT or PHL or DTW), but now both United and Delta are competing in ITH, which is good news. I took the route to Pittsburgh from Ithaca that made a stop in Elmira - in the air for 12 minutes.

For an Albany flight, all 3 Washington airports have nonstop options.

Avoid IAD if you can (depending on where the friends live). It's a long walk inside the airport tunnels to Metro followed by a long hour on the Metro to get to the actual District. DCA is so much more convenient for both arrivals and departures (6 Metro stops to the arena).

For an Albany flight, BWI has plenty of direct Southwest flights and can be reached via Maryland commuter rail or a $15 Amtrak ticket. 30 minutes.

You can do Amtrak and change trains at NYP, just book ahead, otherwise it can be pricier than flights. Or there are plenty of nice $25 buses to NY from DC's Union Station or DuPont Circle and then Amtrak to Albany. Again, book at least 3 weeks in advance.

At least the 3s look like 3s instead of the unholy offspring of 3 & 7.

Veilleux didn't change his number to 15, and I'm going to be mad about this all summer.

Quote from: ugarte on June 26, 2026, 01:17:02 PMI can't believe I didn't know that Ryan Hughes' son was on the incoming roster. I saw Ryan score four goals in a 5-4 loss to BC at Lynah.

"Hughes your Daddy!" clap-clap-clap-clap-clap

As a freshman in 1992, the first semester after he left, several Lynah vets told me how much they missed screaming "HUUUUUUUUUUUUGHES" when he got the puck at key moments.

Similarly, if you want your athletic kids to be popular with fans, name them something with an "oooo" sound: Lou, Mookie, Raoul, Boo-urns, etc

Pretty sure that Hughes played his senior year ('92-93), though he may have wished he hadn't. That was a rough time to be a fan and it can't have been easy to be on the ice, either.

Memory: what a bitch.  Especially of that year for CU hockey

Wait for real??? I swear it feels like we play them every year.

Am I getting them mixed up with RPI? I am, aren't I.

I would love if we scheduled RIT more often. Their student section could go up against the best of the east in terms of passion and creativity, honestly. BU, UNH, Maine, Vermont, Clarkson, RPI, and us.

Well that sounds familiar. Now that I think about it, Cornell fans tend to find something to complain about when we win, too.

Nothing on MSG's website yet. Occasionally they have it before anyone else, though probably not intentionally on Cornell's part.

Usually July?

We've heard as early as April in some years. Can never hurt to check.

As I age I'm finding that a task as simple as moving a mouse can absolutely hurt if I'm not careful.

Quote from: Trotsky on May 19, 2026, 02:37:46 AMI know I started this thread and all, but, having now read through it and followed the links and stories, I realized I just don't give a shit about what goes on off-ice.

The team I love are those who are wearing the sweater as I watch a particular game.  Whoever comes out the tunnel is yay.

The rest is codswallop.

Dammit. Every time I'm clicking on any of these threads, that's exactly what I think to myself. I realized long ago that I just don't care about following any of these commits, draft rankings, decommits, Junior pipelines, prospect-hugging whatever threads/discussion. I'm going to show up in the fall and cheer on the players hitting the ice dressed in our sweater. That's all I care about. Learn new players and their strengths and development.

I recognize that a lot of people do like that stuff, so I just stay quiet and let those who do have their fun or stress or whatever gets people occupied.

So Greg isn't alone, I'm just upset he took the credit. :-)
