I wonder when the flip to making money on sports became a thing.

I know if you go back into the 1920-30-40 or whatever, costs were vastly different but schools didnt derive tons of money from sports to fund other sports.  I dont recall much talk about it in the 70s-80s either. Its when TV suddenly kicked in that it started to lead to all this spending and huge budgets.

the only way college sports work is if there is some idea of balance in the chance to compete.  Capping in NIL is a start.

That just pushes it back onto the shadows though

I would argue Brian Hayword had a pretty good NHL career.

He set the Jets franchise record for season wins, he played behind Roy when they won the award for fewest goals. He won the first ever game for the Sharks franchise.

Not bad for an undrafted guy, played about 10 yrs. Played about 25-30 games or more eight times. Won 20 games three times. 

the max contract two way deal is 850k-950 with 10% bonus.  Its not like there is much difference.  The big deal is that he signed a 3 yr deal so the team can spread it out for 3 yrs to sweeten the pot.

He can't get redrafted. If he plays another year at Cornell, he'd be a college free agent. Different thing.

And they changed the rules - now, when you start the NCAA, you get 4 years to finish your degree. Pretty sure this is retroactive too. If you expedite it and finish in 3, like Wiebe is doing, then you get 3 years. After you finish, you have 30 days to negotiate with your draft club - if you don't figure it out by then, you become a free agent.

From what I've heard, he's going to finish his degree either way. Wouldn't be surprised if he finishes the credits for it over the summer.

Castagna can sign a 3 yr deal this yr or next.  It comes down to getting a degree, playing with teammates.  Does he want to play for the team that drafted him and take that deal or go back into the pool and get drafted again.

the first half scoring 9 goals and the 2nd struggling to get 2-3 and for most of the half not even getting shots off was the real issue

Age plays some in these signings doesnt it?  Castanga being 20 doesnt really matter as he would still be able to get a 3 yr deal next yr. the 3 yr control kinda makes the kids decide to take a deal or try to play for a better deal yr 4.

Its funny how often these times get confused because they dont just post information to make it clear.

Add a few more chars, 4pm MT and 6pm EDT or whatever. 

You want people to travel, and watch, make it easy to understand.

That non takedown late was interesting.  I dont get why these places all seem to be set up so guys can get into the tables while still being on the mat though.

hard to get NIL as a canadian without being creative. where does BU come up with money to spend from revenue.  They dont get much from hockey TV and they get basically none from FB and BB TV money

4 games vs teams inside the top 20 left they need 2 wins to get to 3-4  if they want to have a shot at an at large bid and make sure they are in a good spot come ivy league tourney

well if the NIL Budget is 500K and you split it 10-20 ways and the top few guys get 50K you are not leaving a ton for most of the rest. it could be 10-20K is next to zero to him.

Lots of late nights ended with SS/hals  and State diner food back in the day.  Went to the Greek house more than the Souvlaki house.    The chariot and the nines for pizza and wasnt there one more sit down pizza place back in the 90s in college town?
