John Spencer Is Dead / Re: Sports Streaming

I prefer Hulu Plus Live TV. $90 per month for the service with ads. Only thing you won't get is the World Juniors but I understand (have not done too much research on this) that Sling includes the NHL Network and offers a daily pass for $4.99.

This is probably more than you are looking to spend (not to mention more content than you need) but unless you...ahem..."yo ho ho" I don't know that cheaper, more focused alternatives actually exist.

I'm not starting the 2026 thread, but the schedule is out...and...no Syracuse. Boo.

Yeah. Jeff Wilpon.

(I know who you are talking about, but Jeff Wilpon is also in that photo.)

Let's get back on topic. Screw BU! The Wilpons too!

Congratulations to Cornell on another fine season; it's been fun to (casually, and as you'll see below, not closely) follow the team and I hope they continue to improve.

The current tournament seems wide open--of the eight top seeds, only three (4 Maryland, 7 Georgetown, 8 Portland) remain.  You could lament Cornell not being part of it, but I gather we were missing some of our top players?

Wow, that's so long ago that *I* was at Cornell back then.

I was going to post this article here, not surprised to see someone already diid. In a weird coincidence, two other schools are mentioned in the article as places that Syracuse applicants will attend instead: Penn State and Maryland.

Every time there is a new post in this thread and I see the words "Ben DeLuca fired", I think "again?"

Is there an issue with putting all seven letters in the university's name on a shirt?:-(

Maybe there is, Maybe it would make the $67.99 for long sleeved men's or women's T-shirt even more expensive.  ::thud::

2009 was...I don't want to say heartbreaking because I was a fan; I'm sure it was heartbreaking for the players and sad for the rest of us. 2022 didn't feel that way because Cornell never led in that game (well, they did lead 1-0, but I mean they didn't surrender a late lead.)  In both 2009 and 2022, I thought the team exceeded expectations so to even make the final both years (2022 even more so) was a huge accomplishment.

I say this all to point out that a lot of that disappointment has been erased because the team won in all in 2025!  Yes, guys like Max Seibald and Gavin Adler and many (or all, in the case of Seibald) of their teammates never got to be national champions.  2025 doesn't take that away for the players.  But it largely does for me as a fan.

How many years of NCAA eligibility does a player have? Ivy League doesn't allow grad students on teams but how can someone play anywhere as a grad student if he has already used four years somewhere else? I thought NCAA eligibility was four years, not five.

I am very late to this particular party (regarding the new Field House), but is the idea that the Field House will host lacrosse games? It would be cool to see early season games better attended, if the national championship can stir up more interest on campus. Does anyone know when it will open and what the seating capacity will be?

Quote from: BearLoverWhat are some historic Cornell big game performances that compare to Kirst's 6 goals in the title game this season?

Well, I'd have to use non title games--in my 25+ years of following Cornell sports I've only seen two national title games (both lacrosse, both recently.)

When I saw this post two words came to mind: Louis Dale. Scored 26 points in the second round of the 2010 NCAA basketball tournament to lesd his team over Wisconsin and into the Sweet Sixteen. (Ryan Wittman scored 24 in the same game.) That will likely remain the basketball program's biggest win for the foreseeable future.

Quote from: George64For you youngsters, Tim Goldstein on the list above, is Ryan's father.

At some point, you may decide to add Ryan Goldstein to the list, but I think our next superstar will be Willem Firth.

I agree. Some of the TV commentators speculated that Firth would move to attack next year. My take is that he's too similar in style and physique to Goldstein, so he would stay at midfield:

That would be my speculation too. Firth is a lefty who can slot into the CJ's spot. On the other side, maybe Ryan Waldman. He's righty who can pass and score.

On the FanLax forum there is speculation that this new recruit will be starting at attack next year--according to Inside Lacrosse he is a five star recruit.

Quote from: RichHSo great to see both of these memorable moments again! Thanks very much.

I was at the Albany game and remember watching the Syracuse game live.

Just to show how unreliable memory was, I had it in my head that this trail check happened near the end of regulation and led to a goal forcing OT, but here it is plain as day that it was near the end of the OT period. I can still hear Howie's usual call for "J. G. Johnny Glynn!" all season long.

And that bull-rush to net at the Dome...wow. I love the incredulous looks on the SU faces. That is now sharing space in my brain with Goldstein spinning off his defender from the corner in the first half Monday.

Seibald was always at the top of "the best I ever saw" list, being a do-everything tough-as-nails middie. Put Kirst side-by-side, but on attack.

Speaking of "do everything", I saw a Seibald highlight reel where he was taking faceoffs for Cornell, too. Wow, I did not remember that.

Here are two local news stories on the Cornell lacrosse players' graduation.  In the first one, while Connor Buczek is speaking to the media, you can hear "Free Bird" in the background. Either the NCAA is now regulating graduation ceremonies, or the team likes that song more than we thought.  ::burnout::
