Just came across this - I am the originator of the "red" during the national anthem. I started doing it probably in late season '87 or possibly '88 (I'm class of '89). I was a big Orioles fan at the time and thought it was a no-brainer to chant "red" during the anthem. I got several of my roommates to help out but it didn't catch on until we roadtipped to Clarkson and St. Lawerence and sat near the Cornell band. They obviously heard it and started to do it themselves. The rest is history.
