Barron scored again.  He's on an every other game pace over his last six

The last time they were off this long they returned to win five straight.  The stakes are higher now but I'm looking for a streak of six to eight straight this time

Gabriel Seger is on a roll.  Goals in three straight for Grand Rapids.

During the 1st period the pxp guy called Malott "the pride of Cornell" or something to that effect.

I'm pretty proud of him!

Barron scored again.  Two in three games after that drought.  His goals all have the same ingredients .  The play starts in the defensive zone.  Speed is involved.  There's always a beautiful finish.  Is he forever a fourth liner in the NHL or will he someday find himself with a bigger role?

Or he can play his senior season and become a free agent (unless the rules changed in the new cba)
Or play his senior season and sign to Calgary anyway. Depends what they want to do with him and what he thinks of it.

Calgary got Coronato to leave Harvard after only two years but he was a 13th overall pick so not an equal comparison.  They weren't in a rebuild then so that could change how they conduct business with their prospects present day

Jack Malone got his first goal of the AHL season on Friday for Utica.  Been a tough second year for him but for at least one night he was First Star with an assist to go along with that goal.

Morgan Barron scored his first goal since December 21.  What had been a nice start to his season sure changed when Winnipeg got Lowry back.  I wonder if Barron will ever get released from a checking role to showcase his offense more like early in this season?

Quote from: sah67 on February 28, 2026, 09:12:25 PMOof: not sure how you give up a 2-on-0 while you're killing a penalty.

They had been doing a lot of lining up across the blue line and basically standing still.  It was taking them a while to get back up to speed when Clarkson would approach the zone.  Not sure why they were lining up instead of defending in layers.  Once Clarkson broke through that line nobody could catch that guy.  It was not a typical PK strategy for Cornell but a terrific read by Clarkson.

Quote from: VIEWfromK on March 01, 2026, 09:12:16 AMWhy isn't Cornell the two seed with more regulation league wins than Dartmouth?  Why is head to head the first tie breaker?  Doesn't seem right.
Why is wins "right"?

And of course you answered your first question with your second question. ;D

Cornell had 14 regulation wins to Dartmouth's 13.  That should always be more valuable.  Head to head comes into play beyond that.  Regulation wins is the first tie breaker in the NHL
Instead of playing every game till you have a winner, once you start basing seeding on some sort of point system, it's all opinion.

For example, let's say that you win every game in OT, with no regulation wins. You wouldn't put that team last because regulation wins are more important. But how you figure it out is opinion.

Yours, mine and the chicken next door, they're all just opinions.

And thankfully, hopefully, we don't see 3 on 3 or shoot outs determine championships. ;)

The ECAC clearly values regulation wins more now that they award three points.  Why shouldn't that be reflected in the standings?  The body of work over a 22 game league schedule should outweigh a head to head matchup of two games.

I tried to get the chicken next door to weigh in on the topic but he's still bent out of shape over that getting tied to the net thing.

There were so many talking points coming out of that game.  Definitely was a nice primer for postseason play.  Another tight game where the boys locked it down and pulled out a win.

I know it's been done before but really nice touch with the seniors.  Don't think Donaldson had played since the pre season. They got hemmed in there to start the game but each guy made a contribution this weekend.  Really happy for that group of guys.

The commitment to defend last night was brilliant.  Sticks in lanes and blocking shots galore.  Really liked that effort.

The officiating.  Woof.  I think it's low hanging fruit to always blame officiating but the constant measured faceoffs and premature drops by the one linesman in particular.  The having to re-review the offside for how much time to add.  The inconsistency of letting them play vs what they did call.  Letting scrums fester.  What I swear should have been an automatic goal with the empty net (I have not seen a replay yet).  The one they got right was the blatant Stanley major but overall a really bad night for that group.  I don't remember those guys before so hopefully they go off and mess up someone else's playoff series.

Fisher had a really nice evening.  His game doesn't usually jump out at you but he had some nice plays on both sides of the puck. Really too bad that goal came off the board.

That blocker save by Keopple during the major penalty kill was an all timer.  It deflected off of one of our defenders.  How many times have we seen that puck go in over the years?  Unreal reaction time by him. Glad he got that win.  Huge night.

Hoping Hiscock is alright.  Didn't like that he wasn't able to finish the game.  He was out there in full uniform for the ceremony but he didn't play after that injury.  Hopefully he'll be full strength by round two.

That was the type of team effort we have been looking for.  A lot of little things to like.  We are finally to the point of the season we have been waiting all year for.

Quote from: BearLover on February 28, 2026, 09:41:50 AMTonight I am expecting Wallace in the lineup, Keopple in goal, and Donaldson as the extra skater.

You were all over this.  I didn't dare hope for Donaldson to get another game.  So glad he did.  Your man on the inside really came through  :)
