Thanks.  Through a Facebook post I found after following your link, I found that the Cornell Club of Arizona did buy a block of tickets, but they are sold out and have a wait list.  I asked if they could let me know the section they are in.

I'm going to both games, but haven't bought tickets yet.  Anyone know if the Cornell alumni association has a block of tickets, and how to get them if they did?  It has been almost 15 years since I've been to a Cornell game.  I live in California.

I hear ya, John and respect your opinion. I will concede the ECAC Championship, but I think you get the gist of my message, that these are all rungs in the ladder in the quest for the grail.
No, there are two ladders and two grails.  I would rather win the ECAC title even if it meant being sent west in the regional than lose the final and stay home.
Seems rather obvious to me, too.
I'll go you one better. I'd take an ECAC championship and a Round 2 loss (maybe even a Round 1 loss) over losing the ECAC's and making the Final Four.

I wouldn't care about the ECAC's if we made the Championship Game, though.
In 1986 when the ECAC was a powerful conference, I'd agree with you.  Today I would much rather have a Frozen Four berth than an ECAC championship.

I guess this season is meeting the low expectations I had at the outset.  Trotsky/Kepler had a USCHO poll at the beginning of the year on how far we would fall.  I voted for something like "Borderline TUC/Slightly above 0.500 ECAC."  That's exactly where we are and I'm not expecting any more.  Yes I know the season isn't over and anything can happen, but the odds of this team making the NCAAs are slim.

I just hope this is truly a rebuilding year like 2004 and not a long term shift in power.

Very surprised and pleased to see the score of this one.  I had thought this was going to be a rebuilding year with all the offseason losses and graduation of last year's key players.

And yes RichS, I'm also happy to see Clarkson win.  Big non-conference wins by fellow ECAC teams are good for the PWRs.

Now if only someone would add a TV game or two.
hockey's future has some words on Shane Hynes.
Thanks for the link.  I'm happy to read that Hynes is playing well.  I knew he had a knee injury, but didn't realize he had ACL reconstruction.  It's tough surgery to recover from (they drill a hole through the center of your knee and string a graft through it to become your new ACL) as I know from personal experience.

Here's a story about Hynes' selection to the ECHL all-star game.

Adam Morrison is on waivers.  The Coyotes are likely to call up LeNeveu from San Antonio.

Not very good news on Shane Hynes.  The Ducks sent him back to Portland after Saturday's training camp session.  His knee injury, that limited him to only 12 games with the Portland Pirates last year, is apparently still bothering him.

Edit:  Actually he didn't even skate at training camp.
"Right wing Shane Hynes was the lone player among the 51 in camp who did not skate. Hynes is recovering from a knee injury that limited him to 12 games last season with minor league Portland."

I wish him the best on an eventual full recovery.

Sigh.  This year's losses to the pros and graduation are starting to rival those of 2003.  Good thing the NC schedule is easy this year.  Good way for the freshmen to get their feet wet with the heavy load of responsibility they will have.

Hockey / Re: McKee signs with Anaheim
McKee will be a third goalie with Anaheim (for some reason) and will be practicing with them today.
You're right.

http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/atoz/article_1084185.php

McKee was pursued by 8 teams, so it could be the Ducks added a clause that he has a roster spot for this year as extra incentive.  The Ducks' roster has been only 22 players for most of the season.  Since the NHL allows a 23 man roster and the Ducks are well below the salary cap now, they can carry McKee without sending anyone else down to Portland.

By the way, I am almost sure that Giguere will be gone this summer.
Just curious why you're so confident of this.  Giguere has a lot of OTL's but has stepped his game of late and Anaheim came out of nowhere and is in solid playoff contention now.  Their #2 goalie has played 5 games since Feb 1 so Giguere has gotten most of the starts.  I don't know anything specific here, I'm just curious about your thinking.

Best of luck Dave.  You'll be missed.
Giguere is extremely overrated based on his unbelievable playoff run in 2003.  As a result, he is ridiculously overpaid and Burke knows it.  Burke is one of the best GMs in hockey and he isn't going to overpay for a guy like that, especially in the new salary cap world.  Giguere has feuded with Coach Randy Carlyle on a couple of occasions this year and he was rumored to be on the move at the deadline.  I don't know this for sure, but all these factors point to one thing: his imminent departure.
Ducks fan here.  Giguere was bothered by a groin injury and was inconsistent before the Olympic break.  Since then he's played extremely well (9-4-1), and his season stats make him a top 10 goalie.  He is overpaid at $4 million/year, but if he puts up another great playoff performance, I doubt he'll be traded.  The Ducks backup, Ilya Byrzgolov, has also played well, but there have been rumors he may want to return to Russia.

Anyway back to the main topic, I am seriously bummed that McKee isn't staying for his senior year.  Just like with Shane Hynes, he's much more important to Cornell now than to Anaheim.  But if he was going to sign somewhere, I'm glad it's with the Ducks.  So Congratulations Dave.  Good luck in Portland and I'll be at the Pond to cheer you on when you eventually make it to Anaheim.

I agree.  Go to the USCHO boards and look at what the Western fans think now compared to a week ago.
Note also how different it is from last year.  When we lost to Minnesota, we came off as little cry-babies.  "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble on the large ice surface!"  This year, we were respectful and businesslike and most un-whiney, and the reaction is that this is a team which played its heart out and doesn't make excuses.  Ding, ding.  That's how respect is won.
I agree, but the respect was primarily won by the Cornell players this weekend.  Although the Red came a bounce away from beating the Gophers last year, I think most fans not wearing Carnelian tinted glasses would say that we were clearly outskated and dominated in puck possesion most of the game.

This year the Red skated with and defeated Colorado College, one of the fastest skating teams in the fastest league.  Wisconsin, unlike Minnesota last year, is the overall #1 seed in the tourney.  And even though the Badgers had the majority of the good scoring chances, their edge wasn't nearly as large as the Gophers had last year.  We skated very well with Wisconsin as well.  I haven't seen a single "Red pylon" comment on USCHO this year.

More selfishly, had we beaten H, I might have been able to go to the games, assuming we would have been seeded in either Albany or Ma. ;-)
You know, though it was a big deal before the brackets, I could really care less about where we went or who we faced now.  We faced two WCHA teams out West, and were still a goal away from the FF; we proved what we needed to.
I don't think there will be very many WCHA fans that don't respect us after this weekend.

Hockey / Re: Better season than us
March 26, 2006, 11:53:30 PM
They may suck, but they did beat us at Lynah & in the ECAC finals :-(

I'd much rather beat them at Bright for the Ivy title, finish fourth in the RS, crush them for the ECAC title, and go 0-1 in the NCAAs than lose the Ivy title, finish third in the RS, lose to them badly in Albany, and go 1-1 in the NCAAs - even if the loss was epic.

Who here would rather have our season than theirs?? I'm just talking statistically, in terms of finishes, titles, records, etc.  Anyone???  ::screwy::
I would.  20 years ago an ECAC championship meant more than it does today.  I like winning the ECACs, but in 2006 I care more about success in the NCAAs and the respect it brings nationally, as Schafer recruits all across the country, and I interact with more alums from other conferences schools.
