Sorry Keith... I'll always root for Joey and, by default, his team...

He's brought me the Stanley Cup TWICE, so I figure I owe him that much!!!!

Of course, the Rangers are still top priority!!!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly...  I HATED rooting for the Devils that year, but hey, I got to drink outta THE CUP because of it, so worse things have happened!!!

Nice to see Joey and Gary Roberts stick together though...

UGHH...  Now I gotta root for THOSE guys????

"(CP) - The Florida Panthers kicked off the 2005 free-agent period by signing veteran forwards Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts, the first two casualties for the Toronto Maple Leafs under the NHL's new salary-cap era. "

Other than the fact that Greg Hornby scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give US the win, looks okay to me!!!

Okay, I thought naming rights had gotten out of hand, but what the hell is with the Harvard Men's Hockey Coach being officially referred to as:

"the Robert D. Ziff Head Coach of Men's Ice Hockey"

Of course, this was announced by the:

"Nichols Family Director of Athletics Bob Scalise"

Forgive my ignorance, but which ECAC team did he play for?

I just put on the Leafs/Sens game, and the top story in pregame is that Joe is not with the team tonight... He went to the airport sometime this afternoon, though the announcers aren't 100% sure where he went... They're speculating that his bad back is flaring up and he's returned to Toronto to see the doctors, but nothing official yet from the Toronto side...

Hope he's okay!!!

While I was certainly rooting for Buffalo in that series, I can't complain too much about Dallas winning since it resulted in Joey bringing me the Stanley Cup!!!

GO TUBA!!!!

But I understand why the rule is there... I actually like (I think) that it's not subjective in any way, and that it doesn't come down to the referee's discretion as to whether or not the goalie was interfered with... You go in the crease, the play stops... Simple as that... No confusion...

Back to the question, though... Do you think that if the game was played with a typical college crease, rather than the square NHL one, that the player would still have been in the crease?

Okay, I know this is a little late, but in watching the replay of Maine's goal that was called off, am I the only one (other than my brother) who thinks that if they were playing on a college rink, with the semi-circle crease, as opposed to the newer crease used in the NHL, that Maine's goal would have counted...

In watching those replays, I do not believe that a Maine skater would have been in the crease, given that the college crease doesn't go up quite as far to the sides of the goalie... And, the puck itself may actually have been in the crease before the Maine player shot it, had they been using the typical college crease..

Any thoughts, or I am really just losing it?

I would agree that a player who has previously received a suspension should get hit harder for a 2nd suspension, certainly...

But, if you're going to suspend a guy for a dirty hit, I don't care if his name is Domi, Bertuzzi, or Nieuwendyk... Dirty hit is a dirty hit, no matter who it was...

Ya know though, that REALLY shouldn't matter... My biggest beef with the NHL lately is the inconsistencies with how they dole out penalties, fines and suspensions... Just because Joey HAS been a clean player doesn't mean he should be allowed to get away with a dirty play now... They should base the penalties on the act itself, NOT on who committed it and definitely NOT on how injured the other player is...

Honestly, I've never thought that Bertuzzi was a dirty player... He is very physical and does get alot of PIMs, but I've never really recalled a cheap shot from him prior to the incident with Moore... That SHOULDN'T matter in deciding how long to suspend a guy for...

The NHL is losing credibility, and losing it quickly... I haven't seen the hit from Joey, but if it is as described (hitting a guy without a helmet after the whistle), then, much as I respect Joey and appreciate him bringing me the Cup twice, he probably should have been suspended for the hit...
