Other Sports / Re: Cornell NCAA Basketball

I almost forgot to include these pearls (from CatsPause.com)

"This game will be a beat down. Cal has these guys really focused and
playing great. Our defense will smother them and their missed 3 pointers
will lead to dunks. Thanks for coming Cornell, just keep the bus running
and enjoy the ride home. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!"

AND

"Cornell can have all the bulletin board material they want; they don't have a chance in hell of winning."

AND

"Guys how can this Kentucky team lose?"

You guys should read some of the Kentucky online forum comments at CatsPause.com  There are some respectful comments on there, but there's also quite a few of self confidence over-indulgence (which is putting it politely).

Here's just a sample:

"Cornell owns a recent win over Wisconsin, and I give them full credit for that. And I also give them credit for getting better over the course of the season.

I am not worried at all about winning this game. Our speed will dazzle Cornell, and they won't know what hit them. I look for a 20-30 point blowout in this game."

AND

"I'll put it to you this way...I refuse to be worried about freaking Cornell!!! All I know is our season is not ending to them! Come on guys we're better than this. No way in hell we are losing this game. Worry about WVU or Duke beating us, but Cornell?! Come on! We are Kentucky and we're playing like Kentucky. They don't have a prayer!"

AND

"If UK was playing Cornell in Chess I would give the edge to them, but in baskeball I say the Cats roll."

AND

"Cornell, a team full of slow, unathletic white guys are giddy over beating a team(Wisconsin) that plays the slowest form of basketball known to man kind, even slower than Tubby Ball. That matchup fit into their hands PERFECTLY. Can't wait to see the slow stiffs try to run with our Thoroughbreds."

Hockey / Re: New Polls
March 02, 2003, 10:50:52 PM
Probably won't move up, although it may seem counter intuitive to us as Cornell fans.  We would need at least 21 1st place votes and last week we only had 8.  I can see us getting maybe 15 1st place votes at most.  It will be an incredibly close vote, however.

On the brighter side, Cornell is off next weekend while CC plays Denver in a 2 game set.  CC-Denver is a BIG rivalry in colorado and Denver never lays down for any game they play against each other.  In addition, CC will have little to play for next weekend given that they've already clinched 1st place in the WCHA.  Denver on the other hand is locked in a 5-way tie for 5th in the WCHA.  If they finish in 5th, they lock a home ice bid in the WCHA tourney.

Translation= Denver will be playing at 300%, CC's only incentive is to maintain PWR position and thus, will be playing at more like 100%.
Further translation= don't be surprised if DU pulls off an upset or two.  Then, you just may see Cornell rise to the only spot left.

Hockey / Re: CCM Cornell hockey cap?
February 25, 2003, 06:57:04 PM
Cornell CCM caps were available online somewhere back in 98-99-00.  I actually got mine (yes, I have a true Cornell CCM cap) at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN back in August, 1999.  I was on a road trip out to Montana at the time and I was suprised to see it.  Have no idea where to find them now.

Hockey / Re: usatoday polls 2/10
February 10, 2003, 11:54:25 PM
As we all know the polls mean nothing come postseason, but given that let's appreciate this for a second and then forget about it.
Is this the first time Cornell has been as high as #2 in either poll?

Anyways, let's hope the guys focus on the New England trip and don't let this go to their heads.  As they've proven before, I doubt it will affect their performance.  Both games have implications for our PWR and a good result could solidify our spot.

Hockey / CHA and MAAC bids
February 10, 2003, 04:32:43 PM
Whoever ends up #15 and #16 in PWR this year will probably be very upset that the "winners" of the CHA and MAAC both get automatic bids to the tournament.  Currently, sub-.500 Merrimack is leading the MAAC with an RPI of #18.  And the real fun comes when you look at the CHA.  Currently, the CHA leader is Alabama-Huntsville, with an RPI of #34.

Just imagine 1 or 2 of the "big 4" conference tournaments being won by sleeper teams and then you'll have a situation where it's possible the #13-#16 PWR teams could not make the tournament, replaced by the likes of Merrimack, AL-Huntsville, and the 1 or 2 sleeper conference tourney winners.

So is it definite that if we'd beaten Harvard we wouldn't have gotten a bye?

Cornell may have a block of tickets, I'm not sure.  But here's the info to get tickets directly from Worcester if all else fails:

617-931-2000 or 617-931-2222 or via ticketmaster.com

By the way, the Cornell vs. Quinnipiac game is at 3:30pm on Saturday, March 23rd.
If Cornell moves on, the game vs. New Hampshire is also at 3:30pm on Sunday, March 24th.

Actually, can't we still play Harvard again in the semifinals on 4/4?

OC was up 4-0 at the end of the 2nd period.  With 4 minutes left in the 3rd, they were up 5-4.  Does anyone find this amusing?
Either Mercyhurst has an amazing offense or QCs defense stinks like rotten meat.
When will they finally expand the tourney to 16 teams so more competitive teams may play for the championship?

20-12-5 Quinnipiac moves on to the NCAA tourney today due to their win over Mercyhurst in the MACC championship.
QC is #23 in PWR and #25 in RPI
