anyone know if there some sort of contingency to show the cornell game in the event that bu-unh goes to ot?  maybe put it on ESPNC?  i kind of doubt it though because there hasn't been one to this point in the tournament.

Cornell went hard after Thiessen.  So did North Dakota.  Interesting that he chose Northeastern and has been instrumental in bringing them to the national scene.  Have watched him a few times this year and he is extremely good.

Cornell catches big break.  Instead of getting UMD that is playing their best hockey of the season, they get a team that has lost 3 of 5 heading in.  I would have thought the top seed in the regional plays the 4:00 game.

Could be wrong but I think Greg Rathusny was in a very serious car accident the summer before he was to be a freshman at Cornell.

After going down 3-0 three minutes into the game, the Flames fight tooth and nail, come back and win 4-3.

Let's assume that Edmonton wants Riley to sign this summer and he is inclined to stay.  Isn't there a dollar cap on what the Oilers can offer him for his initial contract?  If I'm remembering that right then wouldn't he be pretty likely to get the same offer a year from now?

What I'm getting at is how much inducement can a team provide to a kis who wants to stay in school?  I guess they could guarantee NHL playing time or at least a roster spot.  But it doesn't seem like there's much flexibility to bowl the kid over with cash.

(Not that $850k or whatever is anything to sneeze at.)
Rookie max is 875,000 for contracts signed for the season and I believe it'll increase to 900,000 for contracts signed for next season.  It was at 850,000 right after the new CBA was signed but I think it will max out at 900,000.  If Nash leaves this summer he won't be in the NHL next year even if he signs an entry level deal.  He'll go to training camp and they'll either put him in Springfield or in the WHL depending on where the Oilers think he fits.

Has Cornell ever carried four goaltenders before?
I'm pretty sure SLU carried four goaltenders this year. I don't think it is unheard of.
Not unheard of, just extremely rare.

I've no doubt it is, but I wonder i that's because its extremely rare for an team to have recruited 4 goalies in 4 years. I'd wonder in those few cases where they have, whether its rare or not or them to keep them on the roster.

Well Davenport is a pretty special case.  Obviously he was recruited the first time but I wonder how much he was pursued to come back.  Schafer was definitely not a huge fan of the guy at one point for leaving the team mid-season (and rightfully so).  DiLeo is clearly fourth in terms of ability but it wouldn't shock me if Davenport was the odd man out.  Schafer has cut players before, most recently McLeod who he of course later asked back.

Is there an Ivy/ECAC/NCAA limit to the number of people you can have on the team? I know there is for how many are dressed of course, but is there any reason they couldn't have 4 goalies officially on the team in practices even if they don't travel, etc.
I don't know of any limit but it is extremely rare for any team at any level to carry four goaltenders.

May be DiLeo's swan song playing hockey at Cornell.  With Garman coming in and no one graduating, I'm guessing either DiLeo or Davenport will not be on the team next year.

David Jones, who would have been a senior at Dartmouth this year, will be on a line with Sakic and Forsberg tonight.

Hockey / Re: Cornell - Union QF post-series

Very hard fought series.  Union definitely had possession more but I thought the high quality scoring chances actually favored Cornell.  Fontas and Mugford were warriors for Cornell this weekend.  Both got banged up pretty good but kept fighting through it and I think were probably Cornell's two most valuable players during the course of the two games.  They both made several key defensive plays and they made the PK outstanding.  No coincidence that Mugford was in the box and Fontas was hurt when Union scored their first period powerplay goal tonight.

That was the best I've seen Krantz play in his four years in terms of his overall game.  He was actually using his size and consistently playing the body.  He rarely made any mental mistakes which has been his trademark for much of his career.

It was good to see Barlow get rewarded with the game winner after he had really struggled to put the puck in the net for the rest of the series including two missed breakaways earlier on.

Cornell got contributions from all 19 guys who played and that is something that has been commonplace on the successful Cornell teams during the Schafer-era.  Last year's team had more talent top to bottom in the lineup but almost every player on the team was wildly inconsistent and it was rare that everyone was on in one game.  I think the team turned a corner in Game 2 against Dartmouth where everyone started battling and playing for each other every single shift.  If that continues then anything can happen.
