Hockey / Re: Brown 3 Cornell 3 Final OT
December 06, 2003, 12:07:06 PM
Gleed took a stick to the neck.  Don't know if the refs saw it, but it should have been a penalty - didn't look like an accident on Brown's part.  Murphy was awful last night.  He was laughing with the linesmen on several occasions DURING play.  He shouldnt even be talking to them unless play is stopped.  He seemed biased against Cornell, but I do remember a bogus interference call against Brown...maybe a make up penalty.  But can anyone remember a well called game by Murphy?...I can't.

As far as our play goes, we looked very good tonight, after we shook the butterflies out of our stomachs...first ten minutes were shaky.  McKee took until the 3rd to get his head together.  Moulson's goal came off a great shot.  I think the puck hit the inside corner of the pipes, bounced down and broke plane, and bounced out.  I could be wrong, though...it happened very quickly.

I thought we were going to get a penalty when I saw that bottle on the ice during intermission. :-(  I hope whoever threw that gets thrown out soon.  Fortunately Lynah only sells drinks in plastic bottles.

Lynah has been quiet this year....until last night.  The crowd was pumped and it was excellent. :-D

Yup.   The Mercyhurst game was our first home lead of the season...can you say frustrating?  "'The frustration continues to build,' said Schafer." That said, I still have faith.

I always forget that the fish tradition is harmless until a few morons decide to throw more fish after the start of the first - probably from the same kids who had their keys out at the Mercyhurst game :-( :-( :-(  The bear mascots have already stopped throwing candy this season because people have been throwing it back on the ice.

Lynah has been significantly quieter than normal this year, most likely because we've had such a frustrating start to this season.  Getting rid of fish at the Harvard game is just going to make things worse.  If they are really gung ho about the toy drive, why dont they make everyone who brings fish, also bring a toy?  Then we could put the toys in the collection box and the fish on the ice (only before the first period, of course).

Hockey / OT - Dartmouth and Cornell on PTI

Some amusing comments on the ESPN show, Pardon the Interruption, regarding Dartmouth and Cornell.  Not hockey related, but very funny.

Although, I do kind of agree with HOTELCALIFORNIA regarding our play tonight.  I really dont think we played "terribly".   Ohio State deserves credit for their play tonight - they are a solid team this year.  However, we certainly are spending too much time cycling (particularly on the FRUSTRATING power play).  Most of our 3rd period chances came when we were able to get someone in front of their net.  The first two periods, we let them push us wide, and we couldnt get a man in front of the net to save our lives.

First, none of the goals this weekend were blatantly McKee's fault.  Those who really dislike McKee must be judging him on his WMU performance.  Secondly, I agree that Iggulden has really started playing with some balls.  Gleed is another who has done excellent things with his game and has become a big contributor.

Actually, the game could have gone either way in the 3rd.  We had several very close, well executed chances.  The OSU goalie came up huge on one of them.  First OSU goal was a result of a defensive breakdown in front of our net (surprise, surprise).  We were outplayed in the 2nd.  Other than that, we played a very solid game, which makes me particularly sad to see us lose.  One thing I've been disappointed in thus far this season is our work ethic.  The previous three big red teams earned many of their points with true grit and hard work.  This year, we dont have the same drive and dedication that I'm used to seeing (with the exception of Vesce and Cook who always come out to play).

Lots of talk about McKee's freshman mistakes.  I'm surprised I havent read one mention of Carefoot's awful missed coverage that cost us the first goal.  It looked like he was half confused about how to pick up the man and half lazy.  McKee actually got a piece of that shot, which is more than i expected given that it was a clear shot from point blank.  I almost swallowed my tongue when Carefoot made the EXACT SAME mistake again on the same side of the net.  While McKee made some mistakes which could have had horrible endings, he also kept us in the game in the 3rd on several occasions.

It appears that we have a goalie.  Mckee looked excellent tonight.  His confidence really seemed to increase as the Lynah crowd got behind him.  Schafer's defense is ever improving.  O'Byrne is splaying defense with his head and looks very good.  Our power play had trouble finishing tonight, as it has all month.  Overall, tonight was a welcome improvement over the last home games, and even the north country trip.  Hopefully, we can put the puck in the back of the net tomorrow vs. ranked Ohio State.  Let's Go Red!

Hockey / Re: Glover?

Before tonight begins, does anyone know how Glover looked in his first game last night?  He was a fairly highly touted recruit.
