Hockey / Re: Union - 1 vs Cornell - 1 Final

Despite a late flurry by the vesce line, the game ends in a 1-1 tie. glad that we got at least a point, but still feel a bit "unfulfilled".

late in 3rd we had a goal waved off for crease violation and the abbotts/hornby line had a chance with ~ 10 sec left.

still 0 for 2 yrs short-handed. vesce just missed a chance on a 2-0. cornell had another opp earlier in the period. they way the refs are calling the game (union 3 pp in the 2nd so far), the red will probably get a few more.

Hockey / Cornell Real Audio Problems
January 12, 2004, 04:29:34 PM
I'm probably one of the handful of people actually paying money to listen to the cornell games through the college sports pass/REAL ONE AUDIO, and have been frustrated by the audio feeds cutting out during  the games (brown at lynah, no audio for the 2nd period; last 10 min of the hahvahd game at lynah east; 1st 10 min of hahvahd at lynah). I haven't listened to saturday night's brown game, so I don't know if that game is available in its entirety.

Email communication with Jason Dimberg at OCSN in december indicated that a faulty phone coupler was the problem and they were working to resolve it. However, it apparently, has not been completely fixed. In the future, they will be monitoring the cornell game feeds more closely, so that if a disconnect does occur, they can fix it in a more timely manner.

I did call RealOne customer service at
1.800.632.8920.
and got a 1 month credit on my bill for the inconvience of not being able to recieve the service I am paying for.  The woman I talked to was actually very understanding and did not give me a hassle. If anyone else has also experienced this problem, it might worth a phone call.

Hockey / Re: Cornell 5 at Harvard 3 FINAL

Great game, at least for the 50 min or so that I heard.  My audio feed dropped right after Moulson's 3rd goal making it 5-3, and didn't come back on until the post-game. and by the time i got the harvard feed working, the game was over. How much pressure did hahvahd have in the last 8 minutes or so?

This is the 2nd time that I've experienced the cornell feed being dropped in mid-game (it happenend during the 2nd period of the brown game). the last time it happend ocsn blamed it on a faulty coupler. Is this still the cause and when will it be fixed? and is anyone else experiencing this problem  :-( .

Glad the Red was able to fend off hahvahd. Hope they can do the same tomorrow at brown.

Hockey / [OT] football kevin rooney
January 02, 2004, 01:45:28 PM
fyi...
on the jim rome radio show today (being hosted by john feinstein) they had an interview with DE kevin rooney. Kevin is lobbying for 5th year of football. He red-shirted his freshman year due to injury, but because he graduated a semester early (and with 3.89 gpa!), and some ivy league rules about when you enroll in a graduate program and undergraduate status, he currently is ineligble for a 5th year. feinstein was trying to help rooney in his cause.

It does seem unfair because by all accounts, rooney was an excellent example of STUDENT-athlete (and very articulate in the interview).

According to my brother, Matt Underhill did get the start for the florence pride tonight, however the blades beat them 5-1.  I'm sorry that I don't have any other details, .. i was teaching my almost 3 yr  nephew how to make christmas cookies, and he was teaching me the "hockey song" aka the national anthem (he goes to the everblades games, and well, that's the song they sing before they play hockey :-D  ). I told him my favorite part was "...and the rockets RED glare...."

ps... since this thread is getting quite long, maybe next year, we can break it into months.. i.e. Jan 04-cornell alum updates

The everblades won 3-2 tonight. Underhill was the backup goalie for tonight's game. Mark McRae played pretty well. I think he was a +1 for the night (i don't think he was on the ice for the blades first goal). He was getting a lot of time on the PP unit. He had some nice keep in's and shots on net during PPs. Defensively, the pride got running around alot in their own zone. the blades did dominate offensively and had several quality scoring opps.

same 2 teams later tonight.

Hockey / Re:Construction in Estero
December 20, 2003, 03:20:23 AM
Hi there..
anyone coming down for the tourney and staying in the bonita beach area, be warned, parts of US route 41 are a mess with construction. Traffic is heavy and slow moving at points. I've only ventured from estero to north naples, and was very glad i wasn't driving. I do not know (yet) how bad construction is on the fort myers end of US41. Anyways, a trip that looks 10 min on the map, actually takes at least twice that time.

i'll be down there.. the only 2 big red games i get to see live all season. Since cornell appears to be a permanent participant at the everblades tourney, I'm no  mad at my parents (aka mr. and mrs. claus) for becoming snowbirds.

see you in sunny florida

I believe there was a federal law enacted (or soon to be enacted) dealing with the release of a person's medical history and further protecting a patient's privacy by ensuring that written consent is obtained for release of information.

Thus, universities must be very careful about releasing details of a student-athletes injuries. If you watched college football on tv this season, the sideline reporters used the above reason on why they could not confirm the extent or nature of a player injury.

In the case of pro football players, either the teams or NFL may be having their players (employees) sign a blanket release regarding football related injuries as part of their contract.

I recall this being a hot topic of discussion on ESPN radio (this spring or last fall) when this legislation first was announced. there were plenty of fantasy football players wondering about how they were going to get injury info so they would know how to adjust their rosters week-to-week.

if i remember correctly, a gordie howe hat trick is a goal, an assist and a fighting (or maybe just elbowing) penalty.
