Hockey / Re: America One Sucks it

Quote from: GBR1234FYI, I wrote and complained to support at America One Sports. Below is my message and their reply:

Subject: Why?

Last night's Cornell game from Lynah Rink was unwatchable on iPad.
It froze every 15 seconds so I ended up going back to my laptop where the video didn't freeze but was terrible. ..Highly compressed and blotchy.
I just watched the women's hockey game game from Lynah Rink this afternoon on The Ivy League Digital Network. No freezing on the iPad with a FAR superior picture than I received from your company last night.
Why is it that from the SAME venue your transmission is so bad, when ILDN is so good?
I paid an extra dollar last night to get the game on my iPad, yet couldn't use it.
I will order the game again from you tonight, but should I even bother purchasing the mobile option?
Was last nights awful feed an aberration, or is this the quality I can always expect from America One Sports?
I just don't understand why there is such a vast difference in quality from the exact same venue between your service and ILDN.
Please explain.

Reply From: America One

Last night's viewing issue was in fact an aberration, and we apologize for your inconvenience. We have issued you a credit for last night's purchase and have corrected last night's issue. We hope that your viewing of tonight's event will meet your expectations.

Thank you,
America One Live Customer Support

Thank you for both taking the time to send the complaint and to share the reply here.  Maybe I'll give it a shot.

So I'm debating whether to buy the stream tonight to watch it and judging from the discussion here I'd venture that "no" would be the vote.  I'd run it from my PC to TV via HDMI . . . from what I'm reading, it's $10 for a pretty substandard feed, though the PC version is better than the mobile.

Such frustration has been stated before, but it's mind-boggling to think that the audio (and video) could be so poor.

I'm watching the Sabres instead now.  www.enigmagroup.org/bsn360

For tonight the game was advertised as having "LOW QUALITY AUDIO" before the game, on america one site.  It is indeed low quality, with the play-by-play barely audible.  However, by halfway through the 1st, the "low quality audio" had become that humming sound speakers make when they're powered on but the jack is not plugged in, nothing else.

Surprised to just tune into the feed and I literally just saw 3 BC goals.  Now 9-4 BC.  Too bad the ECAC is showing so poorly this year.

Quote from: Al DeFlorioBrian Delaney has this in his piece in today's Journal:

"Steve Donahue had given Cornell off on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as a reward for their strong play down the stretch of the season. They got back at it today with a tough practice. Jeff Foote sat out with a stomach virus, and freshman Miles Asafo-Adjei stayed at home with similar symptoms. Apparently it's a bug going through the campus at the moment."

Let's hope it doesn't hit either hockey team.
No chance it would affect Harvard. Their system is immune on account of their blood. You play sports at Harvard, your blood is automatically A positive, never worse then A-.

That could be a useful publication distributed about Lynah before games.  A few dedicated folks could pull if off: a committee to update the material on the flyer for a given game, and perhaps TA's with access to the copy machines, and a few reams of paper.  Might be helpful!

Quote from: Jim HylaNo it was not a clean pick. Terrible no call. The whole rink, Cornell bench and coaches were in uproar over it. I'm going to look at the Redcast, but a terrible way to end a good game. Yes, again they outplayed us, they have better players than we do; but to take the wind out of our sails that way was terrible.
Just got an email distribution from Schafer with an attached video clip of that goal.  No question.  It was a terrible "no call."  Mike wrote:  "We were told the referee didn't see Ross pulled down."  The ref had to be blind.
Any chance of sending that along to ts86?  I'd be interested to see that one, as I'd like to compare it with my memory from section F.

Quote from: Larry72Art said as he always does when Cornell scores its first goal at home:  "The Cornell goal..."  Same cadence with no variation!
I do appreciate Art's style of announcing, and I acknowledge that he probably did not change anything and that I'm probably wrong, but I'll keep this notion filed away until I hear some audio evidence, should it ever arise.  If it doesn't, it's of little importance anyway.

The announcer said "Theee TYING Cornell goal" when announcing our first goal with 9 seconds left.  That's my story, and until I hear audio / see video showing otherwise, I'm sticking to it.

I thought the 2nd ND goal resulted from a lackadaisical breakout, but also our guy was tripped right in front of our net as the puck was being skated out.  That's how I saw it from section F.

Funny thing was, I thought I heard the Cornell goal announced with 9 seconds remaining as "Theeeee TYING Cornell goal, scored by . . . ".
I swear he said "tying".  He definitely did not say "first" Cornell goal, as I would have expected.  At first I though "ouch, what an embarrassing misstatement" but then I thought it was deliberate protest.  That 2nd UND goal was BS because it was the direct result a BLATANT penalty (Cornell's lackadaisical play is beside the point if penalties are not being called).
Overall not the most exciting hockey I've seen in Lynah due to UND shutting down and playing pretty good defense, despite our good pressure at the end.

Can anyone else comment if they noticed how the CU goal was announced?

Quote from: Jim HylaAll 4 officials missed a 20-30 second too many men SLU penalty in the first period. All 6 SLU men were in the zone at once, and the CU bench and fans were screaming too many men.
To be fair, our team's gotten away with one of those this year as well.  Not that I endorse equalize-injustice-style reffing--not at all--but cosmically, it was probably appropriate.

But this is the same rink where last year we got called for too many men when we just pulled the goalie. Fortunately they reversed that one.

Photos from both games from the Watertown Daily Times are available here.
Thanks for the link to the photos.  That's a goofy little photo show that plays some funky beats for my Sunday morning viewing pleasure.  That theme music doesn't fit the subject matter at all.  There's a Cornell player about to get knocked into the boards and we've got peppy muzak playing in the background.  Also, the transitions were probably random but sometimes they'd zoom in on an image for the slideshow effect and it'd zoom in on a player's skate or something else random.  Nice shots though.

Anyone know if any of the Touchdowns ever mauled an unsuspecting fan?

Oho, I see what you did there.

One of the bears snuck up on me in my senior year and hugged me from behind during a hockey game at Lynah, thereby totally harshing my game by making me freak out when I was making flirty-eyes with one of the healthy scratches. Hey, at least I showed him I'm a screamer, amirite?

But I think you meant
the real bears. I digress, as I usually do.
