Hockey / Sort of OT: Terps Profanity
January 30, 2004, 10:38:07 AM
Thought some of the Faithful might be interested in this recent posting on the University of Maryland website:  http://www.umd.edu/umnews/sportsmanship0104.html

I hate to get the "profanity vs. no profanity" argument going again, but as always it's interesting to see that we're not alone in these issues.

Thanks!

Hockey / i2sports problems this evening
January 24, 2004, 05:49:24 PM
Anyone else having trouble with i2sports this evening? We're trying to get set up to watch tonight's game, but keep getting dead links when we go to purchase.  Do we have to wait until closer to game time?

Thanks for any help!

Looks great!  We and a few others will certainly be there.   Thanks for organizing and spreading the word.  Being new to the area, we're looking forward to meeting some new Lynah Faithful.

Let's Go Red!

Thanks for the info.  Any specifics we would need to know about the CCW event? (if those would be currently available)

Hockey / Watching Hahvahd Sucks in Baltimore/D.C.
January 04, 2004, 12:26:18 PM
Anyone interested in getting together this Friday to watch us play Hahvahd Sucks in the Baltimore/D.C. area?  Jon and I are trying to get a group together.  We're also looking for ideas on places to go that will have DirectTV and will be willing to give up a screen.

Does this make me famous now?  ;-)

Anyway, I do have to say that I laughed out loud when I first saw the pic of Murray - classic!  Thanks as always Age!

I think a couple things probably lead to the Faithful sounding quieter than usual (and I'll post this since I was there and was actually surprised that we sounded quieter than the second game, on TV).

-  Having our fan base spread out probably didn't help things any in a 19,000 seat arena.  Additionaly, the areas where our fans were concentrated were made up of the, um, not so exuberant or cheer-knowledgable Faithful.  Though I do have to say I was pretty happy to see Hunter Rawlings amongst them.

- The bands had microphones on them.  Especially in Michigan's case, the bands were leading the cheers, which probably caused them to sound overly loud.  In my opinion, the cheers were so long and complicated that it just sounded like a sea of mumbling by the end of them.  By the way, our band was so much better than either of these two teams!  They defintely sounded more like drum and buggle groups than pep bands.  Play something!!!  (no offense, I give them props for effort)  And Minnesota's band needed to remember that they had cheerleaders to dance for them.

- As the game became more and more of a nail-biter, it was really hard to concentrate on cheering the Red on, unforunately.  We'd start a cheer and then it would trail off as we got totaly distracted by the intensity on the ice.

Overall, I was pretty happy with our turn-out given the circumstances.  I think we made a pretty good showing against the UNH fans.  It was pretty tough seeing buses of them arrive (buses you know were arranged for them) and head up to their free buffet breakfast and rally Thursday morning in the lobby of the arena.  The Faithful did pretty good for being on their own.

Hockey / Re: To Those Going to Buffalo

Indeed!  And on the way to/from Providence every time we saw one of the big green I-90 signs that said Albany above Buffalo on it, we were dying to get a camera and doctor it to say Albany, Providence, Buffalo and then blow it up to make a sign.  Not too hard to do it the "old fashioned" way with a green marker I guess :)

I'm thinking anything involving ESPN/ESPN2 is sure to get on TV.  Been rolling things around in my head for a while now... haven't come up with any definites.  But someone should definitely do a ESPN2 sign using "2 more wins" as the last one.

Here are some of my uncompleted ideas to ponder  :-)

                        L *E *  Neveu
                 McRae*S*
                           *P*aolini
-insert something good here for the N-

ECAC Champs
S?
Providence
Now Buffalo

I'm sure all of you will come up with ones much better

Hockey / Re: Cowbell Etiquette
March 31, 2003, 06:31:30 PM
In my (humble) opinion, there is absolutely nothing that should be changed about the cowbell.  I see it as more of a ritual than a cheer really, and playing it much more than it is already would just take away from it.  Besides, the sweetest cowbells that I have experienced have been, for example, in the concourse of both Pepsi and Dunkin Donuts as Lynah Faithful gathered to cheer and hug together celebrating sweet victory - not cheering our team on directly in the rink.   I don't know about all of you, but the thrill I get when I hear the cowbell begin each time would simply go away if I heard it every 5 minutes.

(And I appologize for being a part of keeping this thread going, but I just couldn't let this one slip by ;-) )
