Would it be possible to wait until after the game on Saturday to buy tickets for Sunday or will they be sold out by then?

I'm going to buy tickets for the basketball game at Columbia, but, unlike at Newman, the Columbia arena appears to be assigned seating rather than general admission. Does anyone know which section at Levian is usually the Cornell/visitor's section? Am I correct in assuming that section D which the seating chart says is directly behind the visitor's bench is the visitor's section? Thanks

NCAA Mens' Lacrosse Cornell v. Princeton
April 26, 2014
at the Bethpage Athletic Complex
This is a major game with national playoff implications and we expect a HUGE crowd. More details will follow.

"Bethpage Athletic Complex" is code for Bethpage High School football field. I'm not sure how they expect to have a "HUGE" crowd; these are the home bleachers. The away side is even smaller.

Why is the game there?

I don't know. The only thing I could think of is that part of the deal with Princeton for the Giants Stadium game last year was that there would be a second neutral site game this year in place of the Princeton home game, and this was the best annual game available that wasn't already booked by other teams. I doubt it has to do with money because Bethpage is a fairly small school district and probably can't afford to pay much (if anything) to Princeton and Cornell, and as you can see from the picture, they won't be making much money at the gate.

I haven't been able to confirm this, but I heard a rumor that the 2014 Cornell-Princeton lacrosse game will be held at Bethpage High School on Long Island as part of the 4th annual "Battle of Bethpage." The mother of a friend of mine works for BHS in an administrative capacity and she tends to hear about events held at the school before they're officially announced, so that's how I found out. The 2013 version was St. Johns vs. Georgetown. If this is true, it's a huge step down from playing at MetLife Stadium (although I'm not complaining because I can walk to the game from home). Now that I think of it, she didn't specify whether it was the men's team or the women's team and it would make more sense for it to be a women's game. Last year, at least, they had two games, one for each gender.

Being a captain does not automatically make a player more mature or force them to demonstrate restraint. Players should become captains because they already are mature, demonstrate restraint, and are good leaders (we obviously don't know if McCarron is a good leader or not since we're not in the locker room). In 2011, the Jets attempted to use the captaincy to make Mark Sanchez a better leader and make Santonio Holmes act more mature with disastrous results. I don't think the Jets are a team you want to model your decisions on.

I know that Quinnipiac considers Yale to be their biggest rival and Yale's reaction is "You're not Harvard." I really hope this game doesn't change that dynamic because it amuses me. If Quinnipiac had won, it might have, but I think a Yale victory seals the lack of rivalry.

Hockey / Re: Best ECAC rink

Quote from: billhowardThe three rinks that matter are Cornell, Quinnipiac and Yale. Quinnipiac is the future of college hockey rinks with great seating for fans who aren't students and a roomy feeling for all. Plus a corporate not alumni name on the building. You need to ride a bus to get the to the hilltop facility which means students often decamp after 2nd period to get an early start on parties. (I believe Q's plan is to build dorms there, too, which means they'll need to ride a bus to class. One more college in a non-urban setting that still has to split up its campus.)

They already have dorms on the campus with the rink. Freshmen and sophomores live on the campus with the academic buildings and juniors and seniors live on the campus with the athletic buildings. There's a shuttle bus that runs between the two every 15 minutes or so. Very few students live off campus. Also, did you honestly expect a significant number of Cornell fans to vote for a rink other than Lynah?

Yup: there's nothing I could do about it even if I agreed with ButtLover. At this point, IMO it would be fine if both Q and Yale lost; fortunately for the ECAC, that is not a possible outcome.

Well, that just seems uncalled for. Also, somewhat homophobic.

I don't think this is good for Cornell. Prospects want to play for good teams, not bad teams in good conferences (and until we prove otherwise, we're a bad team). If anything, this will make things harder on Cornell. If a prospect is getting recruited by Cornell and Yale, why go to Cornell when he can go to another Ivy that was just in the national championship game? Also, look at the SEC. Has their recent success benefited any team other than Alabama, LSU, and, to a lesser extent, Georgia and Florida? Tennessee, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and Miss State are still bad or mediocre at best. Even Auburn, two years removed from a national championship, and Arkansas, a preseason top 10, did terrible this past year.

Quote from: KeithKWhat is this President's Day thing you speak of?  I think the last time I had that day off was in high school.

Ooops. According to the Federal Government, today they are honoring WASHINGTON'S birthday. However, my archaic daily planner (the "app" for my dumb phone) says it is President's day, and your local government can call today whatever it wants and of course your employer can say "Yeah, it is Monday February 18th, and yes, you are expected to show up for work".

Obligatory Hockey content:
Sens win 2-1 in a shootout.

Ryan O'Byrne is a +1, no points and over 19 minutes of ice in a goal deluge (especially from a Sens fan perspective).. 6-4 Avs with ~ 5 minutes left.

Matt Moulson and the Islanders failed to show up to the Nassau Masouleum today and were apparently replaced by the Islanders AHL affiliate in a 7-0 loss.

They were taking a well-deserved Presidents Day vacation.

The announcer in the video said that the no-goal couldn't be reviewed. Why not?
