With Minnesota, Northeastern and Mercyhurst winning auto bids, Cornell women left out of the NCAA tournament.

Exciting finish to the game. I thought the Clarkson announcer left a bit to be desired, but Clarkson didn't have to televise that game so thanks to them.

With Cornell's loss, but more importantly Minnesota's win in the WCHA semifinals last night, Cornell fell from 6th to 7th in the pairwise if you exclude Saint Anselm from the rankings. With Mercyhurst from outside the top eight getting the CHA Auto bid and then Boston College not getting the Hockey East auto bid, that takes out Cornell from the NCAA Tournament. Unless, Minnesota loses the WCHA championship game and Cornell moves up one spot in the pairwise, I think Cornell is on the outside looking in.

Even if Cornell does jump Minnesota, the issue of division II Saint Anselm being eligible, versus being qualified, for the division 1 tournament this year, which seems thoroughly ridiculous after having read the reasons behind their eligibility this year, could loom large if Cornell does jump Minnesota.

Bottom line is that two out of three of Minnesota, Cornell and St Anselm are going to miss the tournament when it's announced tonight.

Quote from: Tom Pasniewski 98Well, road tripping took a back seat big time when we left New England a few years ago.  So, video is pretty much all I've got these days.  But, the wife and son and I are leaving Kansas in the morning and driving to Ithaca for both games this weekend.  We'll be in Section C.  Then after spending the week in Boston, we'll be coming back west via the games at RPI and Union.  I know we're in the section behind the Cornell bench for the RPI game and some random section for the Union game.  If the women's QF series goes to a game 3 at Lynah on the 25th, we'll stop for that game.

I plan to be at all games from LP onward as well.

Good to have you back, Tom.

JH

Thanks Jeff.  I never really left.  I watch and I read what you old folks have to say (he says, knowing that I'm older now then you were when we first met).  Our paths will cross.  If we make it to LP, staying and working the week in Boston and adding on Worcester, Bridgeport or Allentown will be easy.  If we miss LP, I may be the only one pulling for Sioux Falls, a straight shot up I-29 for me.  But I see no path that takes us to Sioux Falls in this down year for the eastern conferences.

Quote from: billhowardKansas to Ithaca is 1300, 1500 miles?  That's loyalty to Cornell hockey. I thought 6 hours to Potsdam was heroic.

It's about 1150, but with having to be in Boston all of next week, it just makes sense.  Okay, it probably doesn't make sense to those who aren't fans, but it makes sense to my non-Cornell, but sports-loving wife, and that's all that matters in this equation.

Jim - I've been contemplating this trip for awhile to add a state that I've never seen hockey in, besides the fact that it could well be the closet Cornell gets to me this season. My 18-month old will have a say in my final decision, which is never truly a yes till I walk out the door, but I should know if it's a no (and a likely yes) by tomorrow morning.

Quote from: TrotskyOn the Cornell game ILDN feed the intermission clock is counting down now from 17:00, and the first game is listed on USCHO as final.  I guess we're starting around 7:35, unless that countdown is only for the free skate in which case it'll be more like 7:50.

When I try to get the feed, the intermission clock starts at 17:50, counts down to 17:07, then freezes and buffers. Reloading gets me back to 17:50, counting down to 17:07... ad infinitum. Anybody else having this problem?
Same problem here.

And here.

Just waiting for the purchase link to become active.  I'll just hope that the game is archived.  Got to do an airport run for the next couple of hours so I should be able to get to the recording if it becomes active by 10 p.m. local here tonight or certainly tomorrow morning before it expires.  Thanks Jim.

Quote from: DrewHello Guys,
Will tonights game be video broadcast on the internet?  Hope everyone has been well.

I think only on America One. See ECAC announcement.

The link to sign on is here.

As an aside, has anyone ever bought an America One game on their mobile device? I'm interested in knowing whether if I do that, I can then later watch it VOD on my computer. I know that I only have a few hours to watch it after the game is over.

I'm going to need to purchase the games tonight and tomorrow night, but then watch them later at night/early morning.  I thought when I bought the Women's SF game last weekend, that I was able to watch a replay if I wanted to for a set amount of time.  Anybody know if a replay option is available if I purchase the game when the link becomes active, if even for just a few hours after it ends?  This not being able to purchase the games much in advance is a real downer.

Quote from: DafatoneSo uh, did we have any fan presence whatsoever?  The "Hockey in Omaha" thread has me and one other poster, I think.  I'm not expecting a huge Cornell crowd, but it'd be nice to be joining others, just a little, in some cheers.

No, no real Cornell crowd to speak of in an otherwise well attended game. I will be right behind the Cornell bench tonight so perhaps a few folks will be found in that section.

So, after many years in Boston, the Northeast and prime college hockey territory, the wife and I picked up and moved closer to her family this summer.  This is the land of college football and college basketball and only one college hockey team anywhere within hundreds of miles.  Fortunately, that nearby team is Nebraska-Omaha.  So we'll be there for the pair of games later this month.  The question is, will any other Cornell fans be there?  Fortunately, family and Cornell duties will have me back on the east coast for the MSG game and the game at Harvard.

I'm just excited 1) To beat Trotsky to the punch and 2) I actually found something I was looking for on his site. ;-)

11/15/96 vs. UVM. That same team also tied #1 Michigan at Yost in January.  Since then, CU has only played #1 (however Greg defines it in this chart) once until this season: the 4-3 loss to UHN in the 2002 NCAA QF in Worcester.  Also since then, Cornell has 2 wins vs. #2s: 12/06 vs. UNH in Florida and last season's NCAA win vs. Michigan.

I'll take the info he has on his site over the design of his site any day.

IIRC, the 2002 NCAA QF game was the game UHN earned our nickname for them by having their fans hold up their letter cards in the wrong order.

Quote from: dbilmesTickets are being sold online through ticket office website. They're only selling tickets for Games 1 and 2 so they don't have to deal with refunds after we sweep the series. If by some chance there is a Game 3, fans will have to buy them at Q at the end of Game 2 on Saturday night.

If there is a game 3, I hope they're smart enough to again have it at 5 PM. Getting home at 2 AM, to get up at 6, isn't fun.

Q has Sunday's possible Game 3 listed as a 7:30 p.m. start time, presumably because their women's basketball team is expecting to be playing in their conference championship game in the attached basketball arena at 5 p.m.  If we go to a game three, I'm keeping the hotel room for Sunday night as need a place to work during the day on Sunday.

#1 Minnesota v. #8 N.Dakota
#4 BC v. #5 Harvard

#2 Cornell v. #7 Mercyhurst
#3 BU v. #6 Clarkson

The good news is that Cornell doesn't have to face Minnesota until the finals.  The bad news, beyond the bad news of their 38-0 record and ridiculous GF and GA numbers, is that after being taken to OT on Feb. 16th after winning all their other games by 2 or more goals this season, Minnesota has not allowed a single goal - 6 straight shutouts - 377 straight minutes and counting.  The silver lining, if there is one, is that Minnesota has not had to face any of the top seven teams in the Pairwise this season.  So, there's hope.
I am rooting for ND and if necessary, I would even root for Harvard (although I will shower afterwards).
As much as we hear from the fans of schools in other conferences about how any given ECAC men's team with a strong record can't be any good because of playing a soft schedule, I would love love LOVE it if the Lady Gophers bowed out against a battle-tested Eastern team, even if it's Sucks or BC.

While I won't complain if the Lady Gophers lose to UND, BC or Sucks, just as I am glad that Cornell will face Q this weekend in a two-out-of three in their own barn (cement monolith) rather than one game in AC or not have to get through Q at all, I want the Eastern team that takes down Minnesota to be Cornell in the national title game in their own arena.  To be the best, you have to beat the best at the best.
