Hockey / 2007-2008 Schedule released

Colorado's 5th down win got them number 51 and (if memory serves) a national championship.

Sorry...it was by Ivan Maisel on espn.com.

And just in case anybody was wondering, number one was the Doug Flutie hail mary.  One of my personal favorites, Boise State's trick plays last year, finished 15th.

Cornell made it in there at number 38 for Pete Gogolak's soccer-style kicking and number 35 for forfeiting the game to Dartmouth because they had a 5th down.

Wow...the NCAA gives them an extra year after the University cancelled their season.  The NCAA never sides with players but gives this group of kids who (although there was no rape) were still at fault another year despite the fact that the University cancelled their season and that they played over 50% of their season anyway.  While it's nice to see the NCAA side with their athletes (as opposed to screwing people over like Mike Williams from USC) they screwed the pooch on this one.

Hockey / Re: Milo

Just a thought on this Milo off the team situation...any chance that he really would have liked to play both but Schafer saw that he is a really good baseball player and kicked him off the hockey team so that he had to focus on the sport he (may) have a career in?  Even though he is pretty short to play baseball.  Just a thought

Hockey / Cornell Hockey in ESPN the Mag
March 31, 2007, 11:58:04 AM
Hey...not sure if anybody posted this yet, but in the most recent edition of ESPN the magazine (with Phil Mickelson on the cover), there is a quick mention of Cornell Hockey and the skating treadmill.  It's got a quote from Topher in there as well.

I'm not sure that anybody has been "hoodwinked" into coming here.  They can make visits, see games and see the style of hockey we play.  They then make a decision about where they want to play.  Not to mention the reputation we have for playing grind-it-out hockey.  In the years that I've been here, it seems like our style of play is pretty well known in college hockey circles, so no player who signs on here should be surprised about what they find when they get here.

I am also amazed by the fact that everybody seems to think the world is falling apart because we had a mediocre year.  It's a young team with a lot of talent on it.  I'm upset at the way everything ended as I'm a senior and I don't know how of their games I'll be able to get to in the future but I'm really optimistic about the next few years.  This seems to me to be the most purely talented team that we've had in my 4 years and I expect that we will see better results in the years to come.  We're a couple of defensemen and a goalie who doesn't give up bad rebounds away from being right back where we were before.  Clearly those positions were filled by O'Byne, Pokulok and McKee the last few years and losing all of them was a huge hit but we're not that far off for a team that finished 4th in the ECAC with this many freshmen and sophomores playing big roles.

Finally, what's with everybody saying Schafer doesn't change his style.  Look at last year's recruiting class and it looks like a pretty big shift in philosophy to me.  This year's team is extremely hard to gauge because he was stuck with the old type of players that Cornell is used to and the new fast-paced, offense-heavy system.  It seems to me that as the old guard moves on, we'll get a better idea of what he's trying to do.  If he tries to make Romano, Gallagher and Milo play a physical, pounding type of game the next couple of years you can complain that he's not adjusting.  But give the guy a chance with this new breed of player that he's recruiting.

Q to get upset, Priceton to win.  After that 8-4 drubbing, I'd love to see them again.

Hockey / Re: Freshman (Tony Romano)

I don't think people are concerned about knowing he might jump early, the other teams could get an advantage by knowing that he has been playing with only one arm.  Teams could go after that shoulder or adjust their defense because they know he won't have the zip on his shot that he normally does.

Didn't Reggie Bush just get USC in trouble (again) by contacting the top football recruit in the country?  Telling Nash to contact Zajac...not smart.

Also, it may just be me, but I don't think the best way to get a kid to like your school is to bash other schools (especially the one that his brother goes to).

And...this may just be me, but if you are trying to say "you are" in a contraction, it is you're...not just your.

Other Sports / Foote eligible next year?
February 15, 2007, 07:28:34 PM
I'm just wondering when Jeff Foote is going to be eligible to play here.  He's still listed on the Bonnies roster and not on ours.  Robinson, on the other hand, is on our roster.  Does Foote need to sit out next year, or will he be eligible?

This doesn't even sound like a real channel.  What did they do?  What does the channel have to do with America, other than being shown in this country.  This is so stupid.

Any word on who he routed for during the game?  Alma mater/daughter's school vs. son's hockey team...tough call
