Is there video for tonight? I don't see the game on IvyLeagueDigitalNetwork's schedule... And Clarkson.tv, or whatever, is showing the Women's game only.

Help!

Someone at the game wanna explain why they didn't review that "goal" around 12 minutes into the 3rd? What happened there? Hard to tell on ILDN if it was even close.

Just got home from the game.

Very enjoyable. Larger crowd than I remember there being three years ago.

Around an hour before the game was at the nearby outlet mall and saw a bunch of young guys in matching Cornell polos and shorts, clearly on the team. My first thought was "damn I'm old." and the second was "I wonder if they're stranded and need a ride to the rink."

They seemed fine. During warmups, I chatted with Ryan Bliss for a bit, and he said the team was enjoying the weather, anyway. He seemed disappointed that he wasn't playing.

All and all, a good performance. The first goal on Gillam was a rifle shot off the post and in. Not sure he had a chance. I didn't get a good look at the second NMU goal.

The Cornell goals were pretty solid, too. None of the battering, scrummy "garbage goals" we used to get a lot of. Mostly wrist shots from 10-15 feet out. The first one was a beautiful deflection, it seemed, and the Cornell fan section knew it was in about a full second before anyone on the ice reacted.

Dan Wedman left the ice clutching his wrist in the second period, and watched the third with his arm in a sling. Hopefully that was just precautionary. It didn't look like they wrapped it too seriously or anything, just that they wanted to immobilize it briefly. Hopefully he's okay.

A fun experience, and great to see a lot of the players' families in attendance. I *think* I was sitting near Schafer's dad. Is that possible?

Hockey / College Hockey Podcast

Lately I've been listening to the "Hockey Goes to College" weekly podcast. Good stuff. The coverage is very Boston-centric, and pretty critical of the ECAC, but entertaining and informative, nonetheless.

Hockey / Backhands
November 13, 2016, 09:32:47 PM
Alright, general question time.

When I played (roller) hockey growing up, I feel like we spent a lot of time learning to shoot backhands. I don't see much of that in hockey. Not at the college level, not at the pro level. Am I missing something? Are backhanded slap shots just not a thing in ice hockey? It seems like every time I see a player high in the slot with a straight shot on net he has to do at least two more touches to get to his forehand side.

What's going on here?

Goes without saying - way too many penalties in the first period. Nice that the goal floodgates have opened in the second.

Anyone having trouble with the WHCU audio? The commercials are coming through crystal clear, but the play-by-play has this "wonk wonk" feedback under it.

replay really owes is a big one someday.. thanks NH..
We'll get payback the day we score on a penalty shot.

Now I'm wondering...When's the last time we scored a penalty shot? I have no memory of this.

Hockey / Estero 2015
December 06, 2015, 10:27:46 AM
I went two years ago, and about 50% of the tickets were still available at the entrance, 5 minutes before the first game. Does anyone have reason to believe it will be different this year?

Who's planning on going?

I'm pretty excited to have a player from El Cajon making an appearance. Southern California's middle-finger to nature burgeoning hockey talent brings a smile to this displaced La Jollan's face.

Also, Miami sucks. Too early to be looking forward to Estero?

First, ha.

Quote from: DafatoneAnd here I thought this would be about former Clarkson goalie David Leggio purposefully dislodging the net when facing a 2-on-0 th.e other day

Second, that video was hilarious. The O players flub the play so Leggio's move wasn't even necessary, but what puts it over the top is seeing him signaling for the penalty shot with his hands above his head and pointing to center ice, like he'd prefer that over the 2:00 minutes.

Re Leggio: thought that was such a trashy thing to do. "Awarded Goals" exist in the NHL rulebook; that situation warrants one.

Re 5 on 3 defense: Every time I've ever seen a football team "fourth and inches" someone comments that if you can't make "Fourth and Inches" you probably don't deserve to win the game. More than 60 seconds of 5-3 hockey is a similar thing. The fact that Cornell even pays attention to that stat puts this team's focus on defense into perspective. Assuming Schafer hasn't just jynxed it.

Quote from: TimVLove summer, but miss hockey.  Cruising You Tube, there's a lot of fun videos.  Found this one on Colgate Hockey. No mention of free pizza though.

Anybody got other fun ones from opposing schools?
Just because something is obvious, doesn't mean it's not awesome.

I was hoping someone would find that. I like that after all the effort they put into it, they made sure the polar bear isn't a strong skater.

Yale scores three goals in very rapid succession (3 in 2 minutes). Harvard goalie pulled. Safety seive in.
