Having two sons of my own and another boy or girl on the way, I hope that I write what Larry did to you Ari.  I teared up just reading it.  You helped make a displaced alum in UNH country almost see the game as if I was back in Section B during the wasted 1990-1994 seasons.  Thank you Ari...

Nice article on Matt Moulson from last nights Monarchs win.  Matt is really playing well right now for the 1st place Kings affiliate.  If LA keeps trading people away maybe he will get his chance.

Article is in the sports section at www.unionleader.com

The Raider uniforms were indeed the third jersey.  Funny that the following day after the St. Lawrence game they were being sold in the Colgate bookstore.  Ahhh the lure of the almighty dollar, wait who do they sell those things to again on the Colgate campus??

And they really are not that different from their road jerseys, now the UNH third jerseys with the Wildcat on the front and the light brown color scheme, those are different.

Hockey / Re: SLU - Cornell Post Game
February 05, 2007, 12:10:18 PM
I find it telling that Cornell, without their best or at least 2nd best defensement, with a guy playing significant minutes who has never played defense and was cut from the team twice and with a freshmen goalie who was not supposed to be the #1 gave up 3 goals for the weekend.  I think that is a HUGE positive from the weekend.

The power play, nothing to be said that has not been already.

Scrivens is playing really well, as is most if not all of the new players.

I keep coming back to the fact that the lineup from Wisconsin and the lineup from last night has 8 differenet skaters and a differnt goalie and they are 4th in the ECAC and 2nd in the Ivies with a game in hand.  In addition the players that are playing the best (with the exception of Carefoot) are all young.  That team out East would love to trade places with us...

UNH to unveil new hockey jersey

Fropm Staff Reports

DURHAM — The University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team will unveil a new jersey when it takes to the ice this weekend in the Florida College Hockey Classic on Dec. 29-30.

The Nike Swift Hockey Jersey, first unveiled to the global stage in Torino, Italy in February, makes its college hockey debut this weekend as several NCAA teams will pull on the revolutionary uniform for the first time. In addition to the Wildcats, Nike and Nike Bauer Hockey developed jerseys for eight other men's teams to wear during upcoming holiday college hockey tournaments. Cornell University, Denver University, University of Maine, Miami University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of North Dakota and Ohio State University will also have access to the jerseys when the teams take to the ice this weekend. In addition, the UNH and Cornell University women's teams were also provided Swift jerseys and will wear them later in the season.

Colgate is a real mess right now.  They are giving up boat loads of shots.  They really should have lost to Princeton as well, they gave up 50+ shots, many of them quality efforts.  That is the one game that Dekanich really stole for them.  They miss the character guys from last year, especially Jon Smyth.

Hockey / Re: Quinnipiac's new rink
November 20, 2006, 04:28:21 PM
I would submit as a reason to not renovate Lynah two other examples.  Snively Rink at UNH was a great old barn where the students were right on top of the action.  Now in the new Whitemore Center Arena, oh wait excuse me Towse Rink at the Whitemore Center, the students are stuck in the ends of the rink behind the netting at either end.  Not only divided but also on the ends makes them a total non-factor in the arena.  I go to a lot of games there and it can get loud but nothing like a packed house at Lively Snively.  In addition, they have an Olympic sized ice sheet so you are farther away to start, there are luxery boxes at one end, piped in music with no band and advertisements everywhere.  Every time I walk in I long for Lynah and the Faithful.

The second example was the renovation to Starr Rink after the run to the national final by Colgate in 1989(?).  They took out the entire student section, put in arm back chairs and moved them to a tiny section across the rink.  No wonder they don't show up until mid way through the second period if at all.  OK maybe that is a bad example but I have never been to Cheel.

I guess the point is Cornell has THE environment for college hockey in the Northeast.  Nothing matches it except maybe Alfond Arena.  Let's not mess it up...we have a good thing going here.

Hockey / Re: The Q - Transfer Central?
September 30, 2006, 07:26:53 PM
Doherty is going to be one of the top defensemen in the ECAC, he was good at UNH as a freshmen then fell out of favor.  I think that Travis is going to be OK for them as well.  The Q is going to be good this year and next year they could, wait for it, contend for the ECAC title.  Wow that sounds really weird

Hockey / The Q - Transfer Central?
September 27, 2006, 10:34:33 AM
It appears that Quinnipiac has landed another transfer out of Hockey East.  This time it is 2004-05 Newcomer of the Year Goalie Peter Vetri from UMASS-Lowell.  This guy is really a solid goalie and will help them immensly in one year.  I think he will come in as a junior elibigble.  This in addition to two UNH transfers that are eligible this year, Dan Travis and John Doherty who will both start.  Isn't this how Dennis Erikson won immediately at Oregon State?
