Biggest problems with the team IMO are special teams and leadership.  A big part of the problem with the powerplay is the coaching staff's seeming unwillingness to make any significant changes in either personnel or strategy.
I have to agree with calgARI.  I saw both of the games last week and I have to say that I was not surprised to see that Bitz was not playing against Clarkson.  His leadership was lacking and his energy was flat.  Not that I am faulting one person for the whole team getting outplayed in the first period, but a leader generally sets the tone...and his tone was off.

I would like to see the coaching staff look for powerplay combinations that actually produce points (as mentioned elswhere on this forum).  Though Coach Schafer has shown some adaptability in the past, he seems dead set on sending the same players onto the ice expecting different results...and it just does not work!

Hockey / The Schafer system
August 17, 2006, 09:15:29 AM
I was wondering if Coach Schafer will push for his usual strategy of grinding in the corners and boards or if he will try to open up the middle of the ice with the number of offensively minded forwards that we have.  With loosing our large defenseman, I think we would want to stay away from potential injuries which the "ground and pound" can leave us vunerable to.

You have to remember that this would impact all the sports programs at these universities and would force them to purchase new uniforms for each program...would probably include such things as cheerleader uniforms as well.

Well, I definitely heard the Carolina crowd yell RED! last night...geesh, you would think that they could come up with their own cheers. ::rolleyes::  ::laugh::

I was making mac and cheese when I realized that as I was straining the mac I was chanting sieve, sieve, sieve.  Also, did anyone else hear the crowd yell RED! during the national anthem for the opening game of the Stanley Cup finals, or am I just hearing things? ::screwy::
