For those who were not listening in tonight, Kevin McLeod is back with the team and local product Matt Hedge has also been called up from the club team. Both will be playing defense. Someone else has also suppossedly been called up but I don't know who it is. Certainly an interesting development but I think it means that no forwards will be moving back. This gives the team nine defensemen although one is out for a couple months with an injury.
Who is out with an injury? The third call-up? Or someone else?

Matt Hedge? Nice. Go faculty brats! An elynah forum regular has crossed into the light.

Our plan to eventually take over the whole team is progressing nicely. Now all we need is a Schafer lookalike.

Just curious. Has Schafer called up club team members before in his tenure?
USCHO lists McLeod as being a sophomore in 2004-05. Does that mean he's a senior on the team now? (In other words, did he spend last year in school here at Cornell?)

Yeah, he was here last year. He's a senior.

I'm sure he has, but my time is short to really dig and find anything. There used to be a more formal JV team. Sam Paolini made the team as a non-recruited "walk-on."
Then of course, Schafer has also been known to bring in a player from the soccer team in an emergency. :-D

FWIW...It was McLeod (and Fontas) who brought the away jerseys up to Hamilton last year.

Does Nate Hicks count?
There used to be a more formal JV team.
As a brief benchwarming goalie for the Cornell JV, I can tell you that the JV team was disbanded over Xmas break my senior year (Xmas '94), the season before Schafer became coach. I've never heard that it was revived since then, so I'd say there never was a JV from which Schafer could have plucked players. As for JV players getting the "call up" during my time, It didn't happen as far as I recall (although the starting JV goalie would sometimes practice with the varsity). P.C. Druin did skate with us on occasion while he was nursing an injury(?). That guy had a rocket shot from the blue line.

I am Matt Hedge, damnit. I am the answer to the question: "Among regular elynah forum posters, who is the best actual hockey player?"
Actually it was totally uncool of me to semi-expose him on this forum, a sin for which I hope he will forgive me. I was so surprised by the news of the call-ups that I e-blurted without thinking. Sorry.

Don't feel bad, Hillel. He outed himself a year ago.

I'd forgotten about that. ::nut:: Not one of the program's finer moments... ::help::

Oh God, 89 is a birth year, isn't it? Now I feel very old.
'89 would seem a bit young. I am hoping for netID, otherwise I am feeling very old. And I just graduated :-/
'89 would seem a bit young.
Yeah, I doubt he was in last year's walk-ons at the age of sixteen.
I haven't met any freshmen with an '89 birthday...
considering matt is older than me... (atleast I think so... pretty sure) I am guessing 89 is not a birth year. favorite hockey number maybe.
Take two seconds to look it up in the Cornell directroy - it's his netID
As my dad says "one good fact can kill this conversation":-}

Plus I think this whole thing (the 89 in his name) had already been discussed on this forum at some point, I seem to recall.

Good point. I was thinking he'd be 17 now. Whew.
I didn't realize team members were forbidden to look at eLynah... when did that go into effect?
Kevin Marvin McLeod and Matt Hedge have been added to the roster. Despite the plans for them to play defense, they are listed as forwards.

Most coaches tell their players not to look at the local yokel boards, and most players ignore them.
so who's the third?
there isnt a third.
