On the new Cornell internet radio station, Slope Radio, I will be hosting a weekly show with Karlmoose (posts here very infrequently but we go to all the games together). The show will be on Sunday nights from 6-8. It will include analysis of the past weekend's games along with general thoughts, etc. There will be interviews with all types of people - some players and coaches, but I'm not a big fan of interviews with players at any level of sports. They generally just say something along the lines of "We just have to take it one game at a time and keep working hard, blablabla." So with interviews, we may target some different types of people like possibly parents of players, long-time fans, etc. I'm hoping to have a guest on each show that would tell a story related to Cornell hockey from the past. There will also be a call-in, email, IM segment of the show. If you have any other ideas or anything like that, please let me know. Email me at alb69@cornell.edu. I think this will be a really good opportunity for additional coverage of the team and the time and day are both great. The station's website is www.sloperadio.com and the show will either be premiering a week from today or the following week. Also, we are looking for advertisers so let know if you would possibly be interested in that.
Try to get Bob Scott :)
Will it be archived for those that might not be able to listen in at the scheduled time?

Yeah.
When does the show start?

Because that's going to be so much more substantive?
Not that I disagree with the the general idea of athlete interviews... Kornheiser has been saying this for years. Perhaps it would be better at the relatively intimate college level?

Don't know for sure yet. It's either a week from tonight or two weeks from tonight. We will probably talk a bit more about the NHL than Cornell until mid-October simply because the Red-White game isn't until mid-October.
I look forward to it.

Ask them canned questions and you'll get canned answers. Engage the person and you'll get good answers and interesting interviews. (And I'm not talking about "Who's your favorite band?" or "What's your favorite Hot Truck sandwich?") My suggestion is to get guidance/help communications faculty/students. And if there are issues working with the Administration, your fortunate to have one of the best Communications programs in the country at Ithaca College.
LGR!!

Word. Something else to put on my mp3 player for the train ride to the Institute.
ETA: listening to "Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me" has the occupational hazard that when I laugh out loud people think I'm crazy.

If it's easier for you, dude, keep right on believing that's why people think you're crazy. :-D

These are people who don't know me. People who know me think I'm crazy for different reasons. ::nut::

This is why I don't get the This American Life podcast; it's in some weird proprirtary format rather than mp3.

Looking at their web page - its in AAC right? AAC is not a proprietary format. Its a completely open standard and can be played by most things. Its taken from MPEG-4.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/aac/
However, also based on their webpage, it sounds like its protected by Apple's DRM. Which is proprietary and can only be played by iTunes and iPods. Hint for ya: grab a CD-RW, burn it, and rip it back, and you can rip it to MP3s (or non-protected AACs for that matter).
I know, its silly, but what you're talking about here is defeating DRM to play it elsewhere (for legitimate purposes), not changing the format.
Show premiers tonight at 6. There are a few kinks that will need to be worked out, so that show will not be in its most finished form, but it'll still be on all the same.
We'll be talking about a bunch of things including last season, the departed players, and this season. We will also talk about Jews in hockey (as today is a pretty big Jewish holiday) and talk a little about the NHL as well. Hope you can listen in.

I get music. Kinda strange song, imo, but it's there.
