Title: Ivy Football- Week 1
Post by: Chris '03 on September 16, 2006, 05:00:56 PM
Scores from today (the all meaningless inter-conference week):

The good:
Princeton 14 @ Lehigh 10
Penn 21 @ (22) Lafayette 11
@Brown 34 Georgetown 21
@Harvard 31 Holy Cross 14
@Columbia 37 Fordham 7

The bad:
@ Colgate 28 Dartmouth 7

The ugly:
San Diego 43 @ Yale 17

I checked the Columbia score from a few sources because I didn't believe the smurfs could put up 37 on anyone. [Edit: I was right to be skeptical. From the AP:
QuoteColumbia scored 20 points off turnovers, recovering three fumbles and intercepting three passes, and made Norries Wilson the first coach to win his Lions' debut since Buff Donelli in 1957.

Columbia recorded its largest margin of victory in a season opener since defeating Fordham 44-0 in 1972.

Of course Cornell at Bucknell tonight at 7 for windows users. Any wagers on when the feed will appear? When it will first cut out?

Cripes!  I remember when Columbia named Donelli coach. ::uhoh::

No audiocast as of 6:41, despite CSTV's saying pregame would be on at 6:30.  And why is it that every time you start a broadcast you're stuck with a 30-second commercial? :-(

[Edit:  Strange beeps and static sounds at 7:03, but no meaningful audio.]

Some-Access is No-Access.  And Cornell is already losing. ::worry::

Over 100 yards in offense... and two fumbles approaching the end of the 1st. (10-3 Bucknell).

Now 17-3 after one.  Why do I want to listen?  CSTV says "this event has not yet begun."

Lafayette, beaten 21-11 by Penn today, crushed Bucknell 31-0 in their season opener.

I didn't even get that far.  I got "the interface is loading," in perpetuity.  I believe it's because my system doesn't meet the recommended requirements, although it was fine last year.  So, they didn't just cut everybody except Windows.  They cut everybody except Windows on systems bought within the last 3 years.

Great, please bitch to Cornell as well.

I noticed that Bucknell uses http://sportsjuice.com/ . Seems reminiscent of i2sports. And guess what their requirements are? WM Player 9 or higher. That's it. That also means it should run on some third party players for other OSes which play those formats.

And it seems the school/teamcan help customize the price since not everything is priced the same. And yes, yes, I do see its more expensive, since its ala carte, than the CSTV bundle... so perhaps it could be offered as an *option*.

As best as I can tell, there's no good reason why CSTV's audio or video can't support other platforms. Its just their overly fancy, Flash-up-the-ass, excuse-for-advertising interface that can only run on very modern Windows only systems.

So not only is the user experience that much worse because its cluttered as all hell, but they just knocked off probably 10-25% of their audience. Great move. Cornell should not go along with this.

Until then, its free opponent's audio for me.
