Title: Can-Am hockey camp - Clarkson runs the place?
Post by: billhoward on July 10, 2006, 08:53:29 PM
Just about everybody but Rich S was there. We dropped our kid off at the Can-Am hockey camp in Lake Placid and it seems like half of last year's Clarkson and St. Lawrence hockey teams are the instructors. I spent some time talking with Matt Curley (#7, a defenseman), who won one of the team's scholar-athlete awards, and he was more than decent chatting one-on-one. He said Lynah is the most amazing and awesome place to play hockey and, even though the fans are a bit, ah, vocal, he said it's still a rush like no other for a visitor to play in Lynah. (Not sure he felt that way Saturday, March 11.) Even better than playing at Wisconsin despite the larger crowd, Matt said.

I'm dying to find out how much Scott (our boy) wears his Cornell hockey sweatshirt after-hours.

FWIW for parents of kids going to summer sports camps: I have never seen a smoother operation. We got in, got registered, got a jersey, schedule, handed off our boy's meds, forked over his spending money, got his jersey, set up jersey imprinting, ordered a player photo, etcetera, all inside of 15 minutes. Compare that to your usual half-fast intercounty soccer, regional junior hockey, or Boy Scout camp registration process where it's slow, disorganized, and if there's a problem, inflexible.
