I was making mac and cheese when I realized that as I was straining the mac I was chanting sieve, sieve, sieve. Also, did anyone else hear the crowd yell RED! during the national anthem for the opening game of the Stanley Cup finals, or am I just hearing things? ::screwy::

Yeah, but it was pretty weak
Probably cause Carolina has some red in their jerseys. I was listening, but didn't pick up on that. But then again, I was also making dinner and probably not paying quite close enough attention.

Well, don't we all do our own little "RED!" and fist pump wherever we hear the nationl anthem these days.
As for my own "you know you're itching for...", I'm reading a thread now about Vin Scully and the one-man booth, and while thinking of one-man booths in sports, the first (and almost only) reference that comes to my mind is listening to the Cornell games on the radio/internet.
I miss college hockey every weekend I spend home with my kids...
OK, kidding. Mostly. I usually starting really itching for hockey when the Mets fall out of the race. Say, June. This year will be an instructive exception.
...it is June and you still check this website every day. ::nut::

I know what you mean.:)

Oh good. I thought the Lynah Faithful voices in my head were screaming a little louder from outside my head last night and got a little confused.
... when you search the Carolina stands for a Cornell jersey in the crowd.
If you see one, don't cry out and tell your girlfriend or wife, because she'll think you're really off the deep end, and console herself with a trip to the day spa, depleting your joint cash reserves by a couple hundred dollars.
(An understanding spouse or friend would say, "Wow! Cool! Was it home or away?" Then shake her head and head to the spa ... )
... when you plan an exotic vacation in the summertime to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. :-P

I seem to be down to a nearly reasonable two or three times per week.
Beeeej
Holy crap. Totally fitting thread. I just dreamt last night that I played for the team. I was getting ready for the game and was walking around in full gear. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. (Although a part of me was wondering, "Uh, dude, didn't you, like, graduate? TWICE?")
And then I woke up. :-/
This isn't the first time I've dreamt that.

Been there, done that.
How about being in a meeting with another person named Jeff, and when someone asks "which Jeff were you referring to?" you go "Good Jeff...Bad Jeff...etc." ::nut::
Not only that, but you've done it often enough that the other people in the meeting do it with you.
Each time anyone says "(so and so) called..." I am compelled to fill in the rest.
One of my elderly friends and former fellow season ticket holder at Houston FH in Troy passed away this week. I will miss him but felt like this :-D when his widow pointed out a hockey puck in the coffin.
Here is part of his obit:
"He also was a faithful supporter of the RPI hockey team with season tickets since 1952. Merrick chaired a testimonial dinner in 1952 for then coach, Ned Harkness."
Many years ago my friend's brother was the team doctor for the Big Red. Merrick used to mention this once in a while when our conversations about hockey hit a lull.
Makes me itch for hockey and makes me tear up that my friend will no longer be in the stands...
College hockey? Itching? There's gotta be a good Nickerson reference somewhere in there.
Well, I definitely heard the Carolina crowd yell RED! last night...geesh, you would think that they could come up with their own cheers. ::rolleyes:: ::laugh::

Well...stealing teams...stealing cheers. What else is new in Carolina?
North Carolina wasn't the criminal in that move. Karmanos was.
North Carolina wasn't the criminal in that move. Karmanos was.
How do you know that Karmanos didn't steal the cheer and send his agents into the stands to get it started? Or maybe it was the evil North Carolinians who seduced the once noble Karmanos into moving the team from Hartford. How can you be sure?

It will just fuel the "EZAC argument" for the Hockey Least puckheads.
I heard "RED!" also. Kent Manderville played in Hartford and then three seasons with the 'Canes (the only Cornellian to play there, I believe), so there's your Cornell connection. Then again, he played in Edmonton, too, but I didn't hear them shout "RED!"

It definitely was audible before the start of Game 7 last night!

I get the Clarkson/Cole park of this, but the syphillis part eludes me. Anyone want to explain this?
Thanks,

See, and here I had no idea who Erik Cole was, but figured he must've gone to Clarkson to have gotten syphilis (I checked the spelling guide) :)
I went to see "Wordplay," that white-hot Shortzian worship docu-epic sweeping the land, and when they introduced the guy from Colorado (who wound up making the crossword finals), there were some photographs of his family. I'm fairly certain that one of his sons was wearing a Frozen Four shirt from Buffalo. It was partially obscured, but it definitely said "Frozen" at the top and "Buf..." at the bottom.
And I got excited that I saw that.
3 months until Red/White?

Also, I thought this was interesting: one of my co-workers this summer graduated from Union this year and dated Kris Mayotte for three years.

Wordplay.
It was Wordplay. A crossword puzzle movie. Nerd alert. Yup, I loved Spellbound, too.
