And USCHO still doesn't have a preview up.
Thanks Greg for starting this. I'm bad at these threads...see the NCAA 3/26 for example :-P
Revenge time for Cornell? I think not! Wisconsin 5 Cornell 2 final score. You heard it here first.
Revenge time for Cornell? I think not! Wisconsin 5 Cornell 2 final score. You heard it here first.
For Cornell historians, this is the revenge we're playing for: http://www.tbrw.info/boxScores/box19730316.html
Wisconsin women are leading Minnesota 2-0 after 1.
GAME IS Delayed 10 minutes, not sure why. not sure why i posted in caps.
also, dont feed the trolls
Revenge time for Cornell? I think not! Wisconsin 5 Cornell 2 final score. You heard it here first.
A little multiple personality disorder, "Wisconsin"? Or is it "BigBoy", or "francis 356"?
Or, who really cares?
I think every floor in Cascadilla's is watching basketball... how come ppl couldn't stay home one extra day.
Well, no number ones have gotten to the Frozen Four this year so let's keep it up.
"Let's make no mistake about it. This is a neutral site game in name only." :-(
So far, we're moving the puck well and breaking up their plays. Still early.......
Mason beats UConn in overtime.
Cornell doing a great job withstanding the emotional lift Wisco gets early from playing at "home."
Nice save McKee w/15:51 to go
Wisconsin is hitting hard
Nice poke check Glover.
Penalty Wisco!
Cornell pp #1.
Sloppy PP
SOG 5-0 UW
More sloppy passing in our own end on pp!
And more sloppy play in from of our net
Save McKee! 23 sec left in pp!
even strength
CU penalty
what's the call?
Wisco pp #1
Scratch that, UW got the matching minor on the delayed call.
Sounds like matching minors
Gleed and Ollinger (sp?)
http://ne.cn8.tv/channel/channelhome.asp?lChannelID=647
Don't know if people knew about this, but picked it up off USCHO board.
offsetting minors whew!
Nice little mention about the Abbotts and their parents by the CN8 people.
edit: apparently the Abbotts fought about an air freshner in their freshman year. :-P
We're not hitting much.
McKee covers up
:33 left on the 4 on 4
We seem to be playing somewhat tentatively
Jason says Wisco ran McKee but no call (and happily no retaliation).
McCut shot over the net!
7:53 to go
Was that a "Harvard rejects" chant?
Nice "Harvard rejects" cheer from the UW crowd. Which begs the question, what are they? :-}
Penalty CU
Seminoff tripping
Wow- Cornell's using 4 defensemen against UWM's top line?
Seminoiff with a hold and Wisco goes on pp #1.
pp over
I think they were saying four different defensemenhave been used against that line
Even strength. Mitch led a good shorty rush to kill the final seconds.
5:oo to go
More sloppy play in front of our goal
we gotta start hitting!
If the gameplan is to shorten the game, and it oughta be, the Red are doing fine so far.
CU Almost !
better pressure now and wisconsin ices
UW ices after some good offensive zone pressure
Best of the play over last 3.
http://ne.cn8.tv/channel/channelhome.asp?lChannelID=647

THANK YOU!!!!
Wisconsin keeps icing... Cornell applying good pressure.
aside from some (typical) sloppy play, we're holdin our own.
end of 1st
UW shot one wide that could have gone in
Period over...no score.
We looked much better in the last 6 minutes or so than we did in the first 14. Controlled the puck in the offensive zone, forced WI to ice it.
Whew, we did make some way sloppy plays in front of our own net that could easily have lead to WI goals. Some real heart stoppers (and some shouts of "What the hell?")
Moulson interview:
"..better 1st period than yesterday"
"keep fans quiet"
"...UW pretty quick...they're keepin it simple"
Phew! Wisconsin had the possesson clock in its favor, lots of good shots. Cornell had a couple opportunities. Good to have it scoreless after one, and we seemed stronger, or less overmatched, as the period went on.
Is it weird for anyone else to be rooting AGAINST the goalie named Elliott? Maybe it's jus me...
First 10 minutes, we were lucky to escape with a tie. Last five minutes, they were. Even when our offense was sloppy our D was punishing and the defenders don't give up on any plays.
Still, I'd like to see a bit more effort trying to hit teammates on the stick. The passing has been, shall we say, errant... Some great play out of McKee.
Biggest upset of the day can't happen in hockey after Connecticut lost to George Mason. GMU in the Final Four is a bigger shocker than HC 4, Goofers 3.
Awesome - just watching the game in London, UK. Thanks
Is it weird for anyone else to be rooting AGAINST the goalie named Elliott? Maybe it's jus me...
It's double weird for those of us who rooted for both Elliott and Eliot. ;-)
I love Topher more than life itself, but he sounds just like Butters from South Park...
We started to turn it on toward the end of the period. I hope schafer gives that same speach today! Even if we dont need it, it worked so do it again!
Lets go Cornell!!!!!!!!!(dont want to say red ::nut:: )
Is it weird for anyone else to be rooting AGAINST the goalie named Elliott? Maybe it's jus me...
Not just you. It is very weird. During the pregame they showed the a goalie in a red and white sweater streching. The graphic said Bryan Elliott and covered the logo. My immediate thought was "Jason, you idiots!... Wait a second." ::worry::
Biggest upset of the day can't happen in hockey after Connecticut lost to George Mason.
ESPN has the best headline ever for this game: This One Goes To 11
AFter the first 10 minutes, CU started playing their game: getting the hits, winning the battles along the board, and keeping the puck away from McKee. Also looked like some of the hits got the Wisco guys wanting to hit back...I like it.
And I also liked Pegs hit on Robbie Earl...diving bastard (not on the Seminoff penalty, per say...but in general)
And I also liked Pegs hit on Robbie Earl...diving bastard (not on the Seminoff penalty, per say...but in general)
Definitely!
Any idea of relative SOG in 1st?
2nd period on!
And I also liked Pegs hit on Robbie Earl...diving bastard (not on the Seminoff penalty, per say...but in general)
If Seminoff had let go of his stick, they might not have called the penalty. I don't think Seminoff was trying to trip Earl - Earl just moved too fast for him and caught his stick. No harm, no worries though.
Let's Go Big Red!
Nice "Harvard rejects" cheer from the UW crowd. Which begs the question, what are they? :-}
this got a safety school retort. oh, game is on
LGR!

LGR!
sog-8-2 i think
Any idea of relative SOG in 1st?
maybe 10-2?
Shots were 10-4, UW.
CU penalty!
OB 2 mins interfer
Great shot by Bitz
Wisco pp #2.
PP over!
Nice penalty kill by Cornell. Starting to show more confidence.
15:12 left. solid PK!
If UW has more speed, they're not showing it.
Having seen them quite a bit this year, I think they're playing conservatively waiting for us to screw up.
Game on!
kill looking better than the pp
11:32 to go in 2nd. Both teams had chances; both teams playing well.
Cam smashed into the boards. SLow to get up but OK
ouch!
Penalty..tripping on CU! Barlow
Cam smashed into the boards. SLow to get up but OK
How was that not boarding or something?
WI on power play...Barlow tripping
there was no penalty for that?!?
:30 to go in PP
Wow, they just said that McKee has raised $75k for people with learning disabilities (donated to the Racker Center) through his various efforts...including pledges for saves.
:36 to go in WI PP, 8:20 in period. Still scoreless
almost caught us on a change...Pegs ices.. 6:35 to go in 2nd
We are playing very well but does it seem that we are loosing the physical battle to anyone else? Wisconsin is taking our guys down much more
Wow, they just said that McKee has raised $75k for people with learning disabilities (donated to the Racker Center) through his various efforts...including pledges for saves.

That's impressive.
We are playing very well but does it seem that we are loosing the physical battle to anyone else? Wisconsin is taking our guys down much more
it does look that way
What are the shots... ?
We are playing very well but does it seem that we are loosing the physical battle to anyone else? Wisconsin is taking our guys down much more
I think they're getting more big hits than us.
What are the shots... ?
I'm guessing 14-5?? UW
3:59 to go. Both teams are playing well and getting chances. Very entertaining game

What are the shots... ?
I'm guessing 14-5?? UW
Midway through the second the shots were 6-6 in the period, and thus 16-10 for the game. Since then, it's been even. I'd guess about 18-12.
good offensive pressure. UW ices again
2:37 to go in 2nd
Got the webcast on...
Looks like Cornell is wearing down UW. Play seems to be very much in the UW end. Red need to get some shots on Elliot now.
QuoteI'd guess about 18-12.
yes
Uw applying pressure now.
Big UW hit on Topher(?)
period over. Still 0-0
lgr!
not sure how the hit on cam was not a penalty...... a hit on a player who is a few feet away from the boards = boarding
Period over
No score.
Good chances both ways.
Cornell seems to have the edge in conditioning.
Davy!
edit: now can hear Alma Mater!
Let's hope we're not too fatigued when we come back out. Spent a lot of time yesterday chasing CC around the ice and we've taken some big hits today.
Alma Mater...
I don't think W looks as worn out as CC did. ::uhoh::
Call me Chief Albany Kreskin. ::laugh::
Joe Pavelski interview:
"..we gotta get behind them and go..."
"..improve special teams, work harder, more traffic in front.."
"..we need to get the first goal."
Sorta complimented McKee.
....these announcer are missing many Red hits!....
We're hitting, just not getting the BIG ones. Probably trying to stay out of the box.
yup, I see a couple and they don't mention any. We're getting a lot of good hits.
Probably a good plan. This is a HELL of a game.
Second period saw two very even teams play a punishing game. Wisco is more aggressive, Cornell more opportunistic. Their Dmen much more willing to jump into the play and forecheck; when Cornell loses possession the D quickly skate into the neutral zone and there have been a few loose pucks above the circles that could have been opportunities. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
Also, I love McC's playmaking ability but I think he always makes one too many moves. I will keep thinking that until the second he puts it past Elliott at which point I will know that he was right all along.
Wisconsin is getting all of the fancy highlight hits but are showing the wear of having to fight along the boards. Cornell is definitely winning the battle of the boards despite all of the open ice pyrotechnics ESPNU has been showing when the game goes to commercial.
So far, so good. It could be better but I'm very happy with where Cornell is right now.
Wisconsin is also showing the fatigue through their need to ice the puck.
i keep hearing our band...does wisc have a band there? (or are they just playing a lot of the same songs that we do?!?)

***Edited to remove all my personal info. Thanks for the warning about rival jerks, Trotsky.
At this point, this is nearly sudden death.
"Deep in the Heart of Texas" sighting! (Er, hearing.)
we dodge a bullet! UW almost scores
15:31 left. Cornell ices the puck. We've looked pretty flat this period.
At this point, this is nearly sudden death.
Really. One mistake could be the difference
We keep shooting wide!
11:28 to go
Pegs missed a great chance wide.
....good RED pressure...better than the beginning of the period
For the love of all that is good and holy, hit the net boys! Let's go! 3 good chances this period in the last 6 minutes or so that have hit the end boards or glass.
Much respect being offered for Cornell over on USCHO. Which is fine. Now, just win, baby! :-)
For the love of all that is good and holy, hit the net boys! Let's go! 3 good chances this period in the last 6 minutes or so that have hit the end boards or glass.
"Does this thing talk?"
Hopefully I am left home along with the beads for all future Frozen Four trips.
Penalty CU.
Barlow charging :-/
8:20 to go
dammit , stupid penalty
dumb penalty
This is bad. Not a very smart play right there.
8:39 to go, Wisco pp #4.
PP over!
PP over...no score 6:30 to go.
UW misses good 2 on 2 chance with Cam on Defense.
some nerve racking shit! LET'S GO RED!!!!!!!
Let's Go Cornell!!!!
LGR!!!!
This is as good as we've played all year.
Penalty on Topher...du,b
3:02 left
Scott Penalty
3:02 to go
2nd penalty in the offensive zone with under 10 minutes left... just horrible.
What is he doing? What was he thinking?
My goodness. I'm going to have a heart attack.
I'm surprised even something like that would be called with the play being in the corner and not affecting a scoring chance or drawing blood or injuring anyone. But then again, rules are rules.
Anybody else think that was a huge flop? I mean...the guy was twice the size of Topher. It must been one strong pull for him to go down.
PP over. McKee made 5+ saves
mckee coming up huge
HOLY SH****T! McKee great saves!!!
pwn3d!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Ohmigod....what a series of saves by Dave.
PP over, no score (Thank all that is good and pure)
Got the Wisconsin fans back in it.
Well. It looks like David McKee just crammed all of last season into 20 seconds of this one. Thank you, sir. :-)
regulation over
Regulation over...no score still.
I'm gonna pass out.
NOT ANOTHER OVERTIME REGIONAL FINAL FOR CORNELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH ::worry::
If any one of the usual suspects posts a game report with the usual "McKee looked shakey" comment, I'll personally bludgeon him to death with an olive loaf.
what a flurry of saves by dave during the pp and the last few seconds of regulation. the pk team looked quite tired, as they should have been after being on the pk the whole 2 minutes. the two PP cornell took were penalties. you have to call the one on topher - he wrapped the arm and pulled, the guy was off-balance.
here is to going ahead in OT for Cornell :)
LGR!
Anybody else think that was a huge flop? I mean...the guy was twice the size of Topher. It must been one strong pull for him to go down.
Topher's Kung Fu is stronger than his ;-)
Good grief.
I didn't breathe for that last WI PP. They had some fantastic chances and Dave saved our asses.
Gotta drug the kids...had them crying...who cares if you need hot cocoa when WI is on the PP with minutes to go in tie game.
Let's go (CU) Red...I might pass out if you go longer than a few minutes into the overtime without scoring. ::worry::
Third period wrap up: Dave-Mc-Kee! Dave-Mc-Kee! Dave-McKee! We're Not Worthy! We're Not Worthy! We're Not Worthy!!!
Also, both Cornell penalties were ticky-tack. Barlow didn't even skate into the guy, he thrust his pelvis at him and the guy fell down about a foot short of the boards. The call on Topher was worse. The little guy touched a giant's shoulder and the dude dropped like a sack of bricks. If anything was called on that play, it should have been a dive against Wisco. Great no-call on the Earl takedown, though. Easy to blow the whistle when a top scorer goes down when charging at the net, but he was clearly going down on his own.
This game is going to give me a heart attack. Let's Go BIG Red!
I just saw some highlites from the Maine-MSU game and it seems some of the players were hitting the puck into the other team's net. They seemed really excited afterwards, but that's got to be a penalty, right?
.....Arguably one of the best games I've seen....hyperventilating....LGR!
No number 1 basketball teams advance. LGCU.
No scoring.
This ... is insane.
Good grief.

OB shoots wide!!! Get it on net, ferchrissakes!
UW hits the post
This is torture.
Score Cornell, Score.
14:12 left
excellent pressure for three straight icings
quit the freakin icing!
Red line, idiot (x4)
Having some trouble keeping the puck out of our own end.
11:07 to go
Man!! Barlow clearly pulled down a WU player. No call!
The color man had a good point though. He closed his arm on the stick and fell down. You can't give that call in OT.
The color man had a good point though. He closed his arm on the stick and fell down. You can't give that call in OT.
Agreed. Not blatant enough for OT
5:46 to go
2:40 to go
Both teams looking tired.
Score CU, score...please...whatever bad things I did to earn this torture, I'm most heartily sorry.
Carefoot still out from an earlier hit this period
1st OT over
Overtime over.
Still a scoreless game.
Anybody know if this is the longest scoreless game in NCAA history (I know no history, but it seems like it has a shot)?
Let go CU!
This is brutal. And I'm in Switzerland, so I have to be at work in five hours...
Overtime over.

Anybody know if this is the longest scoreless game in NCAA history (I know no history, but it seems like it has a shot)?

To get to the longest, we need to go at least 3ot, and maybe more. I'll check.
We haven't had a powerplay in what, like 70 minutes?
Hopefully as the game wears on, we will have the advantage energy wise.
Fourth period: All Wisconsin for 19 minutes, then Cornell for about 15 seconds. Wisconsin is playing clean and playing well. Cornell is playing clean but very, very sloppy. Thank McKee that we are still alive.
The big difference between Cornell and Wisconsin: Wisconsin faces forward when they pass the puck,
The big similarity: Passes end up on the stick of a Wisconsin player.
I ... can't ... take ... this ...
according to college hockey news, the second longest game in history (second to the Yale/Union 5ot game this year) is a CC win over Wisconsin (1-0) in '97 ... that one went to 129:30. Let's hope this doesn't go that long
Man I'm really getting sick of Bosley Medical, be your own boss, and video professor.... do they have any other ads?!?
Has anyone else's internet audio just died and started clicking?
Yeah, these local cable access advertisers are sure getting their money's worth tonight!
yeah, not workign
Have lost audio.
Any ideas for audio or video?

Keep posting--there is no internet audio & video available only in some regions of the country.
Thank you.
12:45 to go. Face off in WU zone
good opportunities for Cornell.... Scary... Video feed is in and out for me
The video's now crapping out. :-(
Good chances for CU. Face off back in our end. 11:26 to go
8:59 to go. Face off in WU end
Having problems with the webcast too.
Everything has gone dead. Come on Red!
Linesman got hit with puck in his chin. Play resumes.
this is just freakin cruel!!!
Anyone else's still working?
Game is becoming more transitional. Couple good chances for us. face off in their end.
7:24 to go
No CN8 or All Access here. Calling my mom in Ithaca to have her put the phone next to the TV or radio.
CSTV and CN8 both dead. This blows. Come on, Big Red!!!!
Dead here too...All Access audio feed not working either
No video or audio here, either.
5:00 to go. face off in our end. WU with some pressure
This is just cruel.
guess they weren't prepared for the game to go this long. the audio is telling me the stream is unavailable. The video seems to be trying.
video just came back briefly...
2:00 left. We ice the puck after some good defeinsive plays
Anyone else's working?
am in australia at the moment, is everyone having the same problem with CN8 and all-access?
BIG save McKee!!!
7.8 seconds left and we unnecessarily ice (dumb)
McKee 53 saves!
2 OT over
(eLynah very slow)
Back up? Strange car accident ad. on audio
ESPNNews also had the last minute and change.
The audio is dead. The video is overwhelmed. I have been trying to get people to voluntarily remove themselves if they aren't UW or CU fans, but since most are students, you can guess how that is going.
Gas them in the crib. It's the only way to be sure.
5th period: More of the same. My fiancee is going to kill me.
Video started getting choppy on me a couple of minutes into the second overtime but audio was fine. Since about 8 minutes in I've just been getting a few seconds of video and audio every few minutes.
eLynah server is also having trouble.
No CN8 or All Access here. My kind mom in Ithaca is putting the phone next to the radio for me. Will stop trying to log onto CN8.
Getting spotty audio, no video. Second OT just finished.
someone on uscho mentioned that espn news is going to switch to teh game when the 3rd ot starts.
lol, my wife keeps saying she is either going to have a heart attack or shit a brick. this game is driving her crazy.
come out strong, RED and lets get a goal!
....tried to restart CN8....the game is no longer an option....regular programming...I guess the overtimes were too much?
No CN8 or All Access here. My kind mom in Ithaca is putting the phone next to the radio for me. Will stop trying to log onto CN8.
That brings back some memories. eLynah chokes over 150 or so visitors. Pay Age some money so he can buy better equipment. You're paying him for crunch times, not for eLynah in May.

Off the post! Glover
Big slapper from Glover off the goalie's glove and hit the crossbar!
13:07 left.
Tired, tired teams.
Both teams wobbly. Lots of falling. Very conservative hockey. Both teams mostly playing not to lose.
Elliot bobbled a slapshot, but it got bobbled wide.

3 on 2 almost in!
We're getting chances.
WU ices
11:13 to go
Another close one for CU!
Ohmigosh.
Some amazing saves by both goalies.
Sawada still showing some juice.
Another great save by Elliot (I'm starting to dislike him...he's great tonight).
11:07 to go.
ESPNNews only showing a minute here or there. Keep the new audio feed up.
Another huge save by Elliott on Moulson
Huge chance by Moulson
We've been having the good chances, lately. Let's keep the momentum.
Moulson denied on a great save.
Nice save McKee
Off our post..(whew!)
Off the post for WU.
I'm gonna be sick.
UW goalpost....
Replay on a Wisco shot.
U-Dub announcers, and now refs, are saying no goal. We play on.
4x4 matching minors
Matching minors.

:`(
Wisconsin wins
:`( :`( :`( :`(
highly disappointing, but nothing to be ashamed of
:-/
Skille is amazing. Still the best game I've ever seen even though I am really, really depressed. Finally got some chances and Elliott showed why he is a Hobey Baker candidate (and McKee showed last year's Hobeyesque form). The better team won, but the second best team on the ice showed that they deserve to be considered among the best in the country.
Congratulations Badgers. Go win it all.
I had a bad vibe when they went 4 x 4, and it sure didn't take long. But what a spectacular effort. We sure had some good chances in the 3rd OT, but just like last year it wasn't to be.
McKee played a spectacular game. He had no chance on that shot...it was a freakin' laser beam.
Wow. McKee was amazing, such a shame that he can't skate off with a win. :`(
Anyone else extremely pissed at the matching minors call? From what I saw, a guy was pushing Mugford after the whistle, and Mugford wasn't retaliating.
I know the refs wanted to get the game under control without screwing over either side, but that wasn't the way to do it.
We played one hell of a game, though. So did they.
thanks red, great season...definately looking forward to next year (although two weeks earliear than I had hoped)
:-)
Wisconsin radio guys were very very good, and classy. Sincere comments about Cornell's ability, not just trite "nobody deserved to lose" comments
Given our offensive difficulties all year, I guess it was going to end like this. From USCHO, it seems like Elliott's save on Moulson was amazing. I remember Moulson had a good chance against Minny last year in OT, also to no avail.
As Trotsky posted on USCHO, Wisco announcers were pros, unlike the Minny yahoos last year. At least made it tolerable to listen to, despite the sad outcome.
One CU poster on USCHO is complaining about having to play in Wisco after having to play in Minny last year, etc. While I understand the frustration, it does little good to bring that point up, and frankly it diminishes the team's great performance. You play where you play, and I don't think the setting this year had any real effect on the outcome.
....they did the ECACHL proud...not like sucks....
