Scores:
Nebraska-Omaha 2 v.s BU 9 final
Holy Cross 4 v.s Minnesota 3 Final OT....WOW
BC 5 v.s Miami 0 Final
Michigan 0 at North Dakota 2 End First
I'm rooting for all the underdogs today. Make it easier for Cornell to win it all.
Thanks. It'll be anice distraction as I try to wrap up the work week. I guess there's no GameTracker for these, eh?
No Gametracker links listed on USCHO. I wonder if that would run afoul of exclusivity agreements signed by the NC$$ with other outlets, for other sports (squeak, squeak...).
BU-UNO underway before a crowd of... hundreds...
I started an audio link thread. the Neb-Omaha Mavs feed is working.
http://ne.cn8.tv/channel/channelhome.asp?lChannelID=647
UNO early PPG 1-0
The BU love being spoken by the announcers is disgusting. Bleh. Go UNO.
Kyle
BU 0/2 on the power play. The NEB goalie has made a couple of great saves. NEB has a wicked fast transition game.
Chris
Is that Barry Melrose doing color? Whoever it is just said "college hockey is 99% recruiting and 1% coaching." Dildo.
Parse took a stupid penalty... BU makes them pay. 1-1.. under 2 to go in the 1st.
BU SCORES on the power play (their third)
Now 1 - 1
"A sophomore from America's hometown"??? I don't think most people consider any town in Massachusetts representative of America at large. God, please stop the madness...
Kyle
Is that Barry Melrose doing color? Whoever it is just said "college hockey is 99% recruiting and 1% coaching." Dildo.
He also thinks the first name of BU's coach is Jackie... and was bitching about lack of creativitiy in college sweaters because they are all red... and said how college players just aren't as poised on the PP as NHLers...and that's just in the first...::rolleyes::
At least one good thing came of ESPN losing (or not wanting) the NHL contract. Pierre McGuire >>> Barry Melrose. Also, Jell-O >>> Barry Melrose, but you take what you can get.
BU 2-1 Higgins from Yip
3 - 1 for BU Dan Spang up high on a long rebound
BU and UNO trade goals. 3-2.
Higgins again... 4-2
Announcers had just said UNO didn't have a shot yet in the period and the goalie Kauffman (sp?) only thing good for them
A goal by UNO,
Wowzers.... 5-2 BU
Yich... they need to pull the sieve and put in a new one.
Kyle
BU gets it back and still more than half a game to go. ::screwy::
You guys are way ahead of me with the UNO feed. Two goals scored and posted so fast I was still on 3-2. This game could get ugly fast.
its 5-2 not 5-3
5-2?
Where did this 3rd UNO goal come from?
And apparently the announcer said every goal in college hokcey is reviewed? Interesting...
3rd UNO goal is mistake. Didn't happen (at least yet). I got confused, too.
Where did this 3rd UNO goal come from?

I'm Sorry typo. I editted the above posts. That's what you get when reading ELF, typing, listening and closing up shop for the weekend.
They review every goal in the tourney.
How much is left on the clock in the 2nd?
That explains how you had 2 goals scored before I had heard the 1st of them broadcast. The 5th BU goal was pretty damn fast after the 4th, though.
Their goalie is now officially toast. Pull the sieve. ::yark::
Kyle
6 - 2 Higgins on hat trick goal
Between the TV timeouts and reviewed goals there is certainly plenty of time for a team lacking in depth to catch its breadth. I hope our game is low scoring with few whistles so CC starts to get a little tired. Not to mention a low scoring game should help us.
And another Bu goal 6-2, Chris Higgins (ironically) already has a hat trick. Goalie started hot but is probably mentally done now. Goaltending is often like a dam- once a leak starts a solid wall can fall apart quickly.
Damn. I went away to ask someone a few questions, and it was 2-1 BU at the time. I didn't think I was away more than 10 minutes and I come back and hear, "...hat trick for Higgins..." and the score is 6-2. What the hell is going on there?
They review every goal in the tourney.
Melrose seemed to insinuate it was for the whole season. They need someone better in the booth.
UNO on PP. Announcers said BU bench was laughing at teammate's dumb penalty.

To be fair, the UNO defense has hung Kaufman out to dry for most of those. Shaky now, yes.
Higgins now has 8 goals on the season, 3 of them in 10 minutes.
What broadcast is Melrose on? The UNO broadcast for which Rita provided a link sounds decent, although understandably subdued.
What broadcast is Melrose on? The UNO broadcast for which Rita provided a link sounds decent, although understandably subdued.
Melrose is doing the color for the NCAA provided TV broadcast. Any station who picks up this game for broadcasts gets the same TV coverage. Bob Norton is on the intermission studio show.
How much is left on the clock in the 2nd?
6:20 remaining in 2nd. 6-2. SOG: 16-7, BU.
That's what I mean. As a goalie, eventually the other team will get some goals when there is no defense even if the tender is playing great. Even though you know the goals are not your fault, it is very difficult to maintain confidence and timing after a while.
Gotcha. I wasn't thinking about TV.
Thank You!
still 6-2 BU going on Power play
still 6-2 BU going on Power play
7-2, 2:24 left in the 2nd.
7-2 BU
What broadcast is Melrose on? The UNO broadcast for which Rita provided a link sounds decent, although understandably subdued.
I think Melrose is doing the TV broadcast. The audiocast is being done by the UNO hometown radio crew. If Melrose is doing that "fine a job" on TV, maybe we should be glad we are "dish-less" ;-) . Usually the bad color commentary was saved to the during the FF when ESPN2/ESPN picked up the coverage. But I guess this is one of the "perks" of having some of the games picked up by ESPNU. ::rolleyes::

Everyone does know that there's free video stream from the link that redhair34 posted earlier in this thread, right?

I just heard "Kauuuuffffmmmannnn" in the annoying doorbell "tune" of one of the other threads. Silly BU fans. This isn't the NHL. :-P
Was that a natural hat trick?
Was that a natural hat trick?
Yes.
Was that a natural hat trick?
I think at least the 3rd was a PPG, but not sure.

Was that a natural hat trick?
I don't think that matters - all a natural hat trick requires is that the same player score three goals in a row with nobody else on either team scoring in between. I've never heard any requirement that they all be even strength, or anything like that.
Beeeej
26 shots attempted vs. 10 after 2.
6 goals in period against UNO sets record against them. I think they also said tied Regional record.

I thought a natural was 3 goals all in one period...never heard about a requirement that no one else could score in between.
Beeej is right .... natural hattrick is 3 goals in a row without anybody scoring in between. Mario Lemieux had a knack for scoring natural hatricks.
26 shots attempted vs. 10 after 2.

The NCAA's tracker had it 20-8 after 2?
http://www.ncaasports.com/icehockey/mens/gamecenter/live/NCAAH_20060324_NEBOM@BU
Including blocked and wide shots.
Big glove save by Kauffman prevents Ewing getting BU's 2nd hat trick of game. I doubt that's ever been done before in a tournament game?
Wikipedia says you're both right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat-trick
QuoteThe term natural hat trick refers to either of two feats: when a player scores three goals in the same period, or when a player scores three goals consecutively.

My bad, thought it was all even strength.
Have I mentioned lately that I love TiVo?
I get home and its recording the BU game for me, so I'm zooming through that crazy period.
8-2, PP goal
"A sophomore from America's hometown"??? I don't think most people consider any town in Massachusetts representative of America at large. God, please stop the madness...

Plymouth, the Mayflower...yeah I guess it's probably a stretch.
Ouch, I thought BU was going to hold up. After that hit, I think they're going to tee off on this major.
UNO takes a 5 minute major for hitting from behind - a retaliatory hit.
Barry says the original BU hit was clean, I'm not sure sure, but the UNO hit was much worse.
Edit: But BU gets 2 for roughing, so 2:00 of 4x4, then 3:00 of 5x4 for BU.
9-2.... ::help::
Double safety sieve!
Did they put something in the water in Boston/Cambridge...
Last time a team put up 10 in the NCAAs was 1990 when Lake State did it to UAA in an opening round series. LSSU got swept by Colgate in the quarters.
Minnesota put up 9 on Mercyhurst in '03. We all know what happened that year...
9-2 BU final, just in time to flip over to FSN North for Minn/HC ;)
Well, we need something to get in the way of Harvard - should it come to that. Better BU than say, Minnesota? Either way it may be ::yark::
Game about to start on FSN-N (DTV 641) among other channels.
Let's hope the Crusaders keep it closer thatn the Mavs did in the first game today.
No kidding. Not only has Harvard racked up the goals, but BU did this to UNH in the Hockey East tournament before the suddenly abnormal 2-1? OT final against BC.
If BALCO was in Boston we could speculate that they had been dumping evidence into the Charles. ::nut::
Notably absent on the REA ice is any Sioux logo. Instead it just says "UND"
KKAR announcers for UNO were pretty quiet (understandably), but steady and consistent. Gave a lot of credit to BU while trying to pull some silver linings out of the game for UNO. Disappointed in the game, but proud of UNO for getting the 1st appearance in their only 9-year history. Good play-by-play and good at keeping us informed on SOG, shots attempted, penalties, etc. Politely hoped for the best for UNO, but not big-time homers. Many other schools would do well to have these guys broadcasting their games.
Interestingly, they said the DU Center? (formerly Worcester Centrum) had lousy press facilities which made one of them late coming back from a break. Apparently long way down a floor or two to bathrooms. They praised the arena in Omaha as much more modern and more press friendly.
Minnesota on the PP
edit: now even strength for :11, then HC has a PP
Time Warner listed the Minn/HC game being on FCS 236...Currently airing? Texas high school football :-(
the DU Center? (formerly Worcester Centrum)
DCU Center - Digital (Federal) Credit Union - http://www.dcu.org/index.html
Yes, formerly the Worcester Centrum Center.
Minnesota to another PP
edit: PP over, still 0-0
PP over. Gophers seem to be sleeping still. HC has a bigger spring in the step. We'll see how that holds up for the remaining 48 minutes.
PP over. Gophers seem to be sleeping still. HC has a bigger spring in the step. We'll see how that holds up for the remaining 48 minutes.
What? Gopher fans aren't giving their opponent credit for playing well while their team is flat? Somebody send RichS over there to straighten them out...
Gophers take a stupid penalty. HC PP, about 2 min to go in the 1st. No score.
Underway in Worcester... old friend Peter Feola with the orange arm bands tonight. Miami already 0/1 on the PP.
HC 1-0!
HOLY CROSS!!! 1-0 midway in the second.
couple random HC-Minny notes:
-if the camera angles were any worse you'd think it was the all-access video from Lynah.
-HC is getting huge fan support from the Dakota locals...

It's no worse than games from Marriucci or Yost... just really really high up. It's jarring to switch back and forth with Worcester though.
yeah- I guess Englesadt didnt leave any extra money for finding good camera locations ;)
The shots are too tight in though, even though they are high.
Gophers tie it SH.
Holy Cross retakes the lead on the PP.
2-1 with HC on the PP. 5 min to go in the second.
Minn ties it shorthanded...
but HC takes the lead back on a short 5x3, 2-1 HC
Kessel atones for the penalty. 2-2
BC up 2-0
BC up 2-0, 14 to go in second period
Miami goes on the power play.
Miami on 5x3 for 1:15
3-2 Gophers :-(
Minn 3 HC 2
Gophers score a quick one in the third: 3-2 UM with 17 min. to play.
5x3 for 90 seconds for Holy Cross.
Let's go Crusaders!
Does anybody who was watching the game want to tell me how that first goal was good?
I was under the distinct impression that a puck going in off an offensive skate didn't count?
CK

As long as it looks like you weren't trying to deflect the puck it counts.

I didn't watch it, but the rule in the NCAA's is it has to be kicked in for it not to count.
Killed. 13 and change to play. Still 3-2.
Tied again! 3-3... 12 to go.
HC - MN now 3-3
HC on PP, 8:40 to go
BC 3-0 now
BC up 3-0, :40 to go in second
Big kill for HC. 4 to play now.
Still tied 3-3, 2:30 to go
Go HC (I love an underdog...except when the Red is favored, of course)
Let's go Holy Cross!
Minnesota HC going to OT
3-3 end of regulation.
Man, Paul Pearl (HC Head coach) has been killing his bubble gum.
Quesada (HC goalie) has made some great saves (including a few he didn't realize he had made).
Go HC!
Overtime! Go Crusaders!
Did the Holy Cross announcer just say Grand Forks, North Carolina .... ::screwy::
anybody have a link (audio or video) to the HC/MN game?

HC wins
WooHoo!
Holy CRAP, Holy Cross won 0:53 in!!
Beeeej
East 2, West 0; BC likely to make it 3-0.
Great start for the tournament. Now if Michigan could bounce UND...
I am speechless. This may be the most astounding result in NCAA playoff history.
I heart Tyler MacGregor. :-D
I think USCHO.com just died :-}
Did the Holy Cross announcer just say Grand Forks, North Carolina .... ::screwy::
Well they just said the final was HC 4 North Dakota 3 so they made up for it.
I think they are justifiyably emotionally distracted by this victory.::drunk::
Great HC victory.....the USCHO forum is already full official postseason Minnesota threads. :-}
HOLY SHIT!! Go Holy Cross! Can anyone say, "over-rated"?

And they disabled new registrations during the tournament to keep out the trolls.
Just finished watching the whole MN-HC game. MN was so much more talented but it was like watching the Brazilian soccer team. They seemed to care more about scoring a beautiful goal than scoring enough goals to win. There were times when HC was on the power play and MN would be controlling the puck in the HC zone setting up one scoring opportunity after another even though they were a man down.
HC didn't let in a soft goal, took advantage of every opportunity and scored some very pretty goals when they did have a chance.
Grats to them. Glad they didn't do it against an Eastern team ;-)
holy shit. that is all I have to say. All that minnesota cockyness :)
WILD!!!! ..... Great for college hockey!
Underway... go Blue... just to see how many fans would show up for michigan/holy cross!

And outscored 19-3.
How good did BC and BU both look yesterday.....shame they have to play each other in a regional. BC's performance was particularly impressive when we consider so many people were arguing Miami could've/should've been a #1 seed and defensively they were only giving up less than 2 goals per game.
BC scored on PP and had a couple of odd / lucky bounces go their way last 2 goals were ENG's so average of play was a lot closer than score would indicate + Cory S. had a very good game
BC scored on PP and had a couple of odd / lucky bounces go their way last 2 goals were ENG's so average of play was a lot closer than score would indicate + Cory S. had a very good game
To follow up on the ENG's, Miami pulled their goalie with about 6 minutes left in the game when they were down 3-0. Can't say they didn't go for it.
