Title: Anyone know the OT format for the consolation game?
Post by: andyw2100 on March 18, 2006, 03:02:06 PM
Just wondering what the format is should the consolation game be tied after three periods. One 5 minute sudden death OT, and that's it? One 20 minute sudden death OT? Unlimited 20 minute OTs? Anyone know?

I don't know for sure but it would make sense that it would be 5 minutes only since these games count in the PWR.

5 minute OT and then it's a tie.

Yeah, the PWR calculator includes a tie as an option. I don't think they would do a shootout to determine who the best loser is :-P

Boy, that would be a uniquely depressing display, wouldn't it?

Even worse: Multiple OT's to determine the biggest loser. There is at least metaphor in choosing it by shootout.

Someone on USCHO says that the CCHA has a 5 minute OT.  If they tied after 5 minutes the game goes in the books as a tie but there will be a shootout for the third place trophy.
