Title: Lynah renovations - completion pool
Post by: billhoward on March 13, 2006, 02:46:11 PM
Once you've filled in your Road to Indianapolis bracket for the office or dorm pool, how about a pool for Lynah completion? Pick either a date or some other measureable milestone. For instance, these would all be valid possibilities:

[] 11/1/2005
or
[] 45 days after the completion date declared during reunion weekend by the AD
or
[] first 3 home games have to be reshuffled
or
[] 11/1/2005 but only for 3100 people ... wearing respirators
or
[] Indefinitely ... site declared to be sacred Native American burial ground [actual cause: circa 1970 Lynah faithful set upon previous Dartmouth mascot, stole buckskin pants and headdress and stuffed them behind bushes which became overgrown until backhoe work this week. Resolution being worked out to tithe remains to Mohegan Sun in exchange for future naming rights.]
or
...

First home game after Estero.

(In retrospect, that could be interpreted as self-fulfilling, so: first *scheduled* home game after Estero.)

I thought the title meant a pool for how many Lynah Renovations threads Bill can start in one day  ::nut::

(Guilty! Just posted a private message to another active poster saying, "I see a couple of us are having trouble concentrating on work today.)

I'll go out on a limb.

In time for the first scheduled home game.

I'll go out on a limb too.

The Big Red will spend the entire 2006-07 season at whatever its alternate home site will be.  Renovations will be finished in time for the first scheduled home game of 2007-08, not before.

I prefer to consider myself a "realist".

The responses restore my faith that Cornellians across multiple decades share a common skepticism about things getting done on time.

i have equal faith in the construction getting finished on budget or on time.   Though with any luck perhaps Schafer can "yell the right stuff" to move things along.

I was leafing through a year-old charter-jet magazine (I forget why I was killing time, but the date of the magazine kind of says it all) and there was a story about a guy who runs a fleet of FalconJets because he builds 500-room luxury resorts from scratch in six months. In developing parts of Asia where perhaps building inspectors are more malleable.

So doing this over the summer seems feasable. Cornell just needs the rink buttoned up by fall. Actually, it needs to be skateable again by summer if the annual hockey school is being run. I don't recall if the existing locker rooms were being demolished or if that's a phase II or parallel phase.

Just hope there's no snail darter lurking in a Lynah storm drain. Then there'd be two lines outside Lynah -- one for tickets, one for the alleged improvement of the environment.

That depends.  Did the bid exceed the university endowment?

That depends.  Did the bid exceed the university endowment?[/quote]No. We sometimes bid low.  But only if it's cost plus.  We demand the endowment later, when the unexpected cost overruns appear.  Oh, and the 2007 prediction?  That's OK for now, but we'll take a two year slip due to requirements redefinition over the summer...

We don't even need to bid.  We've already secured an SSJ.  Raytheon's the only prime who can install a BGM-109 Tomahawk delivery system at the red line to intercept odd man rushes.

Towards the bottom of the page, it reads, "On ice sessions for 2006 will take place at "The Rink" near Cornell, due to the expansion project at Lynah."

That makes a lot more sense.  I stopped scanning when I got to the coaches bios.
