Title: The Drive for a Dozen -- Albany pregame
Post by: RichH on March 12, 2006, 09:35:07 PM
Yeah, we're 5 days out, but it's never too early for a pregame thread.

No 2nd round upsets give us this:

#1 Dartmouth vs. #4 Harvard
#2 Colgate vs. #3 Cornell

Any question to what the 2 toughest travel pairings were?

3 of 4 teams from 2005.  Dartmouth steps in to replace UVM.  I'm not really sure what happened to those guys...

3 of 4 teams are Ivy for the first time since 2003.  The last time fewer than 2 Ivies made this round was 2000.

Predictions?

Cornell seems to have Colgate's number, and Dartmouth had an easier time, so I figure we beat DU in the final...

Hahvard beats Colgate to assure NCAA in the consolation to assure NCAA inclusion... Maybe only two bids from the ECAC?

Late in the consolation game against Colgate a few years ago, with the (Red) Raiders comfortably ahead, they celebrated their 3-game sweep of Cornell with one of the best opponent cheers I've ever heard: "Just like last time and the time before!"

Oh how I have longed to return the favor.

I don't trust the previous game results against any of these teams.  Cornell was blown out by Dartmouth and then pasted them in the return match.  Cornell edged Harvard and was then edged in a major (cough) disappointment.  So I don't believe in anything but a 25% crapshoot for each team.  My predictions:

Harvard and Cornell win squeakers the first day.
Dartmouth vents on Gate in the consy.
The Big Red eek out a defensive battle against the Crimson in the final.

I'm going to go out on a HUGE limb here and pick Cornell/Harvard for the Championship ;-)

I would love to see us beat Harvard in the final...

Btw, anyone know when and how can I find out which teams will play the early game on Friday and which the later one?

Where are you getting this info? Everything else I have read, and history as well, suggests that Cornell would be the late game, with the top seed (Dartmouth) playing the early game, to allow that team to be a little better rested the following day.
