There is some singing in the background...it's less noticeable when the announcers stop speaking.  I wonder if his mic is picking up the signal or they just have a leaky cable someplace.  But then I still hear the buzz during commercials which should be played from back in Potsdam and not at Lynah.

I saw the puck moving back towards Moulson, and then Leggio wound up with the puck, so my guess is Moulson made contact with it, somehow.  Maybe it hit off his body or a skate.  It really was a 100% empty net -- Leggio was well off to the right side.

It looked like he shot it, whiffed, and the puck took a weird bounce directly to Leggio's breadbasket.

I'm sure someone who was at the game can clarify it later.

Is that a new Zamboni or just a new paint job? And what's with the skating bears? I thought the athletic director feared they'd do something bad like mate, or take the fur off ... [edit] maybe Andy worried the threat to toss fish at a wrestling meet wasn't an idle threat and decided to back off.

The new Zamboni was debuted for Harvard.  When we lost, it was debated whether to blow it up.

The bears being back is a surprise.  But it was not the AD who had nixed it.  It was that nobody wanted to crawl inside that rancid pelt for 12 minutes at a time, and I don't blame them.

We're getting some excellent opportunities, but Clarkson is doing a solid job keeping us from getting grade A chances.  And, Leggio continues to look strong.  Clarkson's playing the classic "rope a dope" style -- hoping to capitalize on a mistake (and we've certainly made enough of those).

I guess, unless if you consider obstruction/interference to be dry humping Gleed against the boards away from the puck and dragging down Topher while he's cycling.  It's not being called on anyone.  The whistles have disappeared.

1-1 after the first period.  We hustled to a 3-1 lead in the second period, only to let Clarkson tie it on 2 bad defensive plays, both of which had O'Byrne's fingerprints all over them!

There's now about 2 minutes left in the 1st OT.

With 5 seconds, the puck went to the corner and it looked like the OT was over.  But the puck was dug out and sent to Moulson near the circle in front of section B.  Moulson fired a wrister that went in after the buzzer according to the ref but you can hear fans in the stands saying "Wow!! That was SOOOO close!"  Sounds like the guys in the press box thought it was good...they are looking at the replay now.

Do you ignore it? Play it up? I think both teams ignore it.

He didn't count anything.  He said if they play this well again -- which was, for the most part, dominant hockey (I think Clarkson may have reached triple digits for icing in OT) -- then they should be in good shape.

Hence the IF.  They blew Clarkson away in game 1 of the '04 series, then folded and got prematurely buried.  The Knights are a very solid team and could easily come back.

description of gwg please?
As best as I can remember...it looked like Clarkson won the faceoff but the puck went towards the net where Cornell was crashing hard.  Sawada was able to muscle between the defenders and pounded home the puck.  It happened very quickly, during which I was brooding about the Barlow miss.
We'll see when the archive becomes available.  I thought Ray simply won it with a swipe right after the faceoff drop/scrum.  If so, Leggio would never have had a chance -- too many legs.

I believe we had two goals waived off and we choked on three empty net attempts.  Does that make it a well-deserved win for Cornell?

and a friggin' painful way to lose....to get outmuscled in front of your net.

Inexcusable from a coach's viewpoint.

Thanks.

Absolutely, Rich.  Cornell dominated most aspects of the game and ought to have won in the first overtime.  Obviously, you're not going to be sensible about it, but, well, yes, well deserved.

For the record, I'll take a completely undeserved win tomorrow night.  Fat Mike will eat well tonight.

Not sensible?  Gimme a break.  If the goalie made 51 saves, one can say his team deserved to win.  Why in the first OT?  Did the ref screw cornell?

Sounds to me like both deserved to win...but only one can.

I'll take a Tech win tomorrow....then see what Sunday brings.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!  Everybody calm down.  51 saves means we had 55 shots on goal.  So Leggio kept you in the game, but it also means Cornell had most of the chances.  One way or another, Clarkson kept the game closer than we'd expected.  As you'd expect from a rival (and we're each a solid secondary rival for the other).

To review, what everybody here has been saying is the following:

1) Cornell played better than Clarkson and deserved to win.  Get. Over. It.
2) Clarkson played a great game and should be congratulated.  If they play like that again tomorrow, it will be one hell of a game.
3) Leggio played his ass off and kept the Knights in the game, and should be goalie of the century.

I defy you to find an opposing message board anywhere that is more fair and gracious than that.  What we are saying, in sum, is that Clarkson is a great program deserving of respect, and you're being an ass deserving of none.  You've earned your rep, with years (literally) of trolling.  There's a difference between Clarkson, which is cool, and you, which... well...

If you really want to persist, we can go another five years of laughing at you.  We'll still be here, and likely we'll still be arguing whether Cornell are good winners and Clarkson are good losers.  Lombardi had some words on that subject, too.

John, yes it does mean largely that.  And thanks.

But "closer than you expected?"  Many of the posters here this week expressed concern about this series and didn't sound like they expected a cakewalk.

I know that the Clarkson team and coaches felt coming in that they had a reasonable chance to win despite the fact that they were the underdog.

Sounds like this was another in the series of great games between the teams, something that you have always recognized which I take note of.  Unfortunately, a few of your arrogant brethren don't see fit to acknowledge the efforts of the other team.  Or need 30 minutes to get around to doing it.

Probably no Hot Truck for me tomorrow.  IF I get up there, it's likely to be at the Clarkson pre-game gathering.

I don't think RichS is a psycho, but he definitely feels the need to take something important away from the Cornell fans.

When I want a neutral site where I can go to discuss college hockey rationally I go to USCHO. Sometimes, however, I just want to go someplace where I can extend the endorphin rush of a heroic win by gloating a little, wallow in the misery of unquestionably unjust officiating, and anticipate future glory. It adds a little bit of extra happiness to my life.

In the rational part of the world I know the wins aren't really heroic, the calls are just the rub of the green and usually even out, and there isn't anything particularly glorious about some kids with whom I have a very tenuous connection winning a hockey game. But gosh darn it, I have enough rational in my life already.

I don't see anything wrong with having someplace to just get a buzz on by saying the Big Red are the epitome of all that is good and heroic but RichS just seems to want to kill that buzz wherever it emerges.

Well, I discovered tonight that he is a teacher. I have a lot of teachers in my family and I've seen what it does to them. So I'll just go back and forth between being furious he's destroying my oasis and feeling sympathy for him as he's simply the product of his tortured environment.

I understand your feelings about wanting to feel good and all, really.  I can identify.

I'm never trying to take away your buzz or have you feel less good about your victories or team but a bit more balanced perspective about how things went or how the ref screwed your team would be good.  To not acknowledge another team's efforts, even marginally and how they affected your own team's performance, sorry I disagree with that.

Actually, you won't even find much of a dislike for Cornell on the roundtable.  You actually won't find much of anything.  Pretty sad - it used to be a vibrant community, but there only seem to be about 4 regular contributors these days.

FWIW, I did happen to notice that most of the 2 posts about the actual game focused on, gasp, Clarkson players.  I think it's pretty disrespectful for them not to acknowledge the efforts their opponents.  I think I'll go berate them for it.  ::rolleyes::
